Corvette used parts

I'm not too keen on walking all day either at my age, but NOBODY could cover Carlisle in a day (or two, for that matter); with the 111-degree heat index and miserable humidity this year, I "toured" for about six hours on Friday and got a lot of photos I needed for my upcoming "Swap Meet Survival" article in C.E., and never left the shade of our Vetteheads.com tent all day Saturday :D

John

This year was our first time at Carlisle. My wife and I planned on going for the wholw show but at last minute had to change plans (no petsitter for the 2 cats and the border collie!) and only went for the day on Sat.
It being out first time we tried to see as much as possible but it was hopeless. We MAYBE got to see 25% of the show if even that much, probably much less. Even with only that amount covered, it got to the point in the early afternoon around 1pm that with all the walking and extreme heat and humidity that my wife almost passed out!
No way are we doing that again. Next year we will go for the whole show thrus thru Sun. We plan on showing up on the field in the morning at 7am when it opens, staying until approx 1pm or 2pm than heading back to the hotel to relax in the AC or in the pool and than doing it again the next day, etc.
That way we should be able to see all or at least most of the show but without pushing it too much in the heat and killing ourselves.

It's impossible to see everything in a day It's darn near impossible to get through just the flea market in one day. We go up for three days, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We get there at about 7:00AM...leave about 4:00PM.

Regarding the vendor spots at Carlisle, they're owned by individuals/companies. They pick spots in what they consider to be the "best" places. Many have had the same spots for decades. They're renewed every year.

Carlisle can't/won't change anybodies space, so you'll never see an "arrangement" where parts are here, services are there, tools are somewhere else, etc. It's always been a hodge-podge, and will remain a hodge-podge. :) That's half the fun.

Don't you just LOVE the Beanie Babies, Chinese tools, "biker" clothing, etc. Adds to the "ambience". There's even a tattoo trailer in the infield. :) Chuck

Mine was Just a wish list.

Chuck you just let the cat out of the bag about Thursday,

This year Thursday night at our hotel parking lot ,I was orginizing some parts I aquired at the show feild, packing them in some box,s behind my trailer.A couple came up and asked what I was selling.I explained I was not selling I had just purchased this stuff today and I am packing for the ride home on Sunday.

Well let me tell you this guy had a FIT and wanted to know the whole story of how I got in.He had thought they opened on friday moring and this explains why he always misses the good stuff.

It takes me all of 3 days to cover the swap meet area and I never have time to go thru the show car area.

This year I am hoping to have my 62 there and just sit comfortably not looking for anythiing except to renu all of my magazine subsriptions.I will have no projects going and not looking for any parts

HOW GREAT WILL THAT BE !

I show up alone first thing in the morinig by my self at the show feild. My wife and kids stay at the hotel and swim in the pool. They come over after lunch in a taxi cab.(less then $10.00) This way I can cover alot of ground in the morning.

My kids are not too happy having to drive in the Cab but it certainly makes things alot easeyer then getting every one up and showered with only one shower in the hotel.

This was the first time I was able to do just that - my car is done, got my T.F. in June, so I didn't really NEED anything except to get some photos; first swap meet in many years where I didn't have a "gotta have" list to check off. :D

I haven't been a vender at a swap meet for many years. The last time I set up in the Fort Wayne Coliseum I sold a lot of stuff. Mostly vintage hot rod and Chevy parts, overdrives, 6 cylinder speed parts, 57 car V8 blocks and such. I suprised myself at how much I didn't bring back home and you are right about the pickers and know-it-alls. I need to do this again but I'm holding off til I start the '59 moving ahead again. Hopefully my junk will finance a big portion of the parts I need to buy.
