Last weekend the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race took place in Florida. It was on the tube. So, I watched quite a bit of the race and found it very interesting. The endurance aspect really adds to the competition. For those that may not be aware of the outcome, a really dumb thing happened to the Vettes. One of the Vettes was in for a pit stop and had started to pull out just as the other Vette pulled in and (UGH) they collided. One had a good bit of damaged, however, both returned to the race. They ended up losing about 8 laps and a few time penalties and finished way behind. Appraently, there was a problem between the track radio and team radio communications systems. Too bad, as the announcers had said that the Corvettes were the cars that other teams had some fears of. I really would have loved to see the Vettes beat those Euro cars. They will be back soon and I am sure looking for a better finish. Check out the Corvette Racing pages for some interesting information.

This post is really more appropriate in the Autocrossing and Motorsports area. I am going to move it there. Hang on...here we go.

Great to hear from another road race fan. I made the pilgrimage to Sebring for the first time this year and it was a truly tremendous experience if not for what happened to the Corvettes. In addition to the communication issue that resulted in the pit crash, the #3 had steering problems earlier in the race and lost some 10 laps. Got to say, ending up the race 8th and 9th in class some 11 laps behind the #62 is quite something given all the problems they had. Certainly not indicative of the team's past successes. Let's hope they have a better day at Long Beach.

There's nothing sweeter than the unfiltered sound of those Corvettes roaring by at speed! :thumb

Thanks for posting the link. I wasn't aware it was under the video tab. I watched it a couple of times and still find it hard to believe. Such a really dumb mistake. However, as you said they didn't do that bad considering.

I'm also a big fan of the Corvette racing program. It's too bad that they hit each other. We are used to them winning almost every time out.

Gosh, I know what you mean. We were definitely spoiled during the last days of GT1 last year. And even in GT2 during the latter half of last year, they showed better than expected performance. At Sebring, the cars were running second and third before the power steering issue put the #3 eight laps down. I'm just not used to seeing the cars brake. And then the pit lane crash just killed any chance of placing respectively.

I guess that's racing. I'll be looking for better results from the sprint at Long Beach. :thumb

Next race at the Long Beach bumper car track !! Qualifying is super important on this tight, narrow track. I'm trying to get to this race........work related holiday ???? Even though it is very difficult to see the course by walking around. Everything is blocked by barriers. It's like watching those Scalelectrix slot cars. Not like Sebring where you can watch nearly every point of the track.........if you're willing to walk a lot of course.

Would love to read your observations if you make it.
