Corvette Tops speed?

I was reading Car And Driver magazine from Jan. 1992. It said top speed for a 92 vette with a 6-speed would be 163 MPH. I have a 92 Vette with a Automatic and the 2.59 rear end. What would my top speed be? Also, what have you guys personaly got your cars up to? ive had mine up to 120MPH.

Thanks

I hit 115 about a week ago in my 86 (yes, it was on a closed course) at the end of a long straight. Still had more to give...

top speed

...is hard to reach in an LT1. It takes a lot of track. I tried it and found
that the 6spd is at 5500rpm at 151 mph. You can't rev it much higher.
And I don't know that 6th gear would help--legend has that top speed
is reached in 5th.

!63 is too high. The LS1 C5's are better aerodynamically and have only
45 more hp; they get to 172 mph or more.

I tried the top end of a C5 auto once. With the convertible top down.
At 142 mph, it starts to pull less--still way more to go!! The C4 feels
this way at 125 or so.

When i hit 120 in my Vette it was on a freeway here in town. Ive hit 150MPH in my 1997 Camaro Z28 on the same road.

Your Camaro goes faster than ur vette? or were u not trying to go ur max?

I didnt try to max out the Vette. And the Camaro still had a good 5-10 MPH left. I bet the 92-96 Vettes will hit 160-165

6spd

...might have been a 6spd camaro. But if you had it up to 150,
then the 6spd vette will be no different. Now, since your's is auto
and I don't know what gear ratio...

So she's not an LT1, but I've gotten my GS up to 140+ (too busy making sure I was still on the road to look at the speedo:D).

I dont remember what gear that was in, probably 5th, but she was still pulling strong at 140... I know of a lightly modded GS hitting 182, and unlike me, he was actually on a road course...

It's been over a year since I've gone that fast. Heck I only broke 100 about 3 times all summer... I shure hope that dosent mean I'm getting old... Maybe it just means I'm getting more responsible?

Geesh, I'm not sure which is worse...:L

I had a 84 corvette and the speedo read 146 MPH, but I wonder if that was true..........

My 86 vette is slightly modyfied, I have aroud 350 hp now and last week I run 172 MPH! I have a calibrated speedo and I am sure this were real MPH. I did this in my 5th gear at 5600 rmp.

I had a talk with a guy who owns a LT4 and he run 170 too, he also had a zf6.

Top Spped 92

BlackRose, I got a 92 with the 2:59 plus convertible; now according to that magazine this VETTE is the slowest one that year. On San Diego's 163, I was going 162 MPH.;worship

where did you read that he is selling the car?

Isn't this him

Corvette Coupe LT4
Black with Grey Leather Interior. Climate Control, Cruise, Power Seats.

Engine modifications: Procharger Intercooled Supercharger giving the car 500BHP and 485lbs/ft torque. Engine overbored by .003", Eagle forged rods, J&E forged pistons, Hayes rings, Felpro gaskets, ported and ceramic coated heads.

Additional modifications: Quickshift gear change, Brey Kruise Harness bar with video mount, Sabelt 4 point harness, Clarion UK Spec Radio/CD/Cassette, Brembo brakes front and rear, coil-over shocks, Corsa SS exhaust, Le Mans spec HID headlights and additional driving lights.

This car was imported by myself in 1999 I am the 2nd owner, the car has done 81,000 miles from new (about 3,000 since the engine work) it is in excellent condition and drives and handles. The car was placed 3rd in the 2002 1990-1996 class at the nationals which reflects the overall condition and the work that has been done to the car. I want £23,000 o.n.o. for this car which is a bargain considering the amount of money spent on the car over the last 3 years upgrading it to its current specification. Reason for sale? Z06.........

I've seen 170 mph in stock LT4 and 175 after a few mods...although I believe I was down on HP from a lot of hard miles...

I think C4's and C5 are both similarly capable at high speeds...as long as both are in good condition-meaning a new C5 sure better run the number a magazine posts compared to a 100,000 mile C4 that has never been over 120 mph...needs proper maintenance, etc.

C4 is cheapest car around to go fast...in my opinon:)

when i hit 130 in my vette my "closed course" is the 401. ingersoll to london in 11 minutes!!!!!!

92 blackrose

I own a 92 blackrose convertible(automatic). My top speed was 154 mph,it had a little more pull left but not much.I changed my diff.gear to a whopping 3.75.......my top speed now is 145mph......with nothing left.I enjoy it alot more now even though my gas consumption has gone up.1/4 time now is 13.52 at 106 mph.

Actually I have a old magazine with the worlds fastest car race in it. John Ligenfelter brought out two cars to the race one was a C5 and the other was a C4 ZR1. After the tests were complete (By Mario Andretti) Mario comented how nice the ZR1 was and how Aerodynamicly stable the car was. Mario said the C5 was prettier but after 200MPH it started to show how the ZR 1 had better aerodynamics.

The Other cars tested were

Ferrari (Forget which) came in 3rd 207 MPH
Toyota HKS Supra - Last place 186 MPH
Mclaren F1 - 226 MPH 1st place
Lingenfelter Corvette ZR-1 - 211 MPH (Disqualified)
Lingenfelter Corvette C5 - 207 MPH (Disqualified)

Both Vettes were nailed beause emissions were a part of the race and John L pulled out the entire emissions system including the cats.

Mario went further to say he actually did NOT like the McLaren F1. He said it was the most aerodynamicly unstable car of the lot

When my dad first purchased our vette about 20 years ago, he had some nice phat sliks on the car. Took it out to the track and was clocked at 180MPH
