Corvette's Top Speed?

I read that too, in 1997. Mario is talking about the down force
and the handling.

I'm talking about the drag only. I will bet that the ZR1 required
more ponies to get to the same spend than the C-5.

Actually on the John Lingenfelter corvettes on that topend race...he was disqualified because the factory cats were damaged during the full throttle/high speed runs...thus allowing his emissions to not pass the sniffer test as this was part of the overall competition-fastest street legal cars. Otherwise the cars were fully emission compliant...

180 mph in a 67? Not stock, thats for sure.

146 MPH in an 84? WOW!! Nice to know I am only a stones throw away from the magic 150 mark. Only had this Vette to 90 but had my 77 to 115. Was quite stable for an older vette.

embarrased for being an idiot

i was crusing down interstate 20 east here in georgia about 2am
one friday night when a dude pulled up beside me in an
95-96 impalla ss, he looked at me and snaped his throttle ah couple times and my thought was " damn! are u serious?
i knew he had the LT-1 but my concerns was does he have a programmer or nos?. he stayed with me for about an exit or so
i gave it ah shot. crusin at 66 mph i kicked the throttle down shifting the 4+3 out of over drive to direct and got out of it at 98mph; he pulled back up to me and pulled away about a car length that took me to 116 to get back next to him . from there wehad about 3 miles of staight road. unbelievably i was running 125mph and still lookin in his face, hell i said let the good times roll "B---ch GO OR BLOW! at 134mph i was looking at his headlights in my rear view mirror. ironically we got off the same exit and when he pulled up beside me at the end of the ramp
at the light he couldnt even look at me he pretendedto be talkin on his cell phone

car was yawning at 130. i was the one that felt uncomfortable. it was late at night on the new jersey turnpike. car had a lot more grunt left. one day ill pop it open again!!!:_rock

i've had my 87 all stock 2.59 rear gear coupe to 160mph now it said 160mph when i let out of it don't know if the digital is accurate or not at those speeds but i can tell you from those speeds the car handles quite well! still had a little bit to go but ran out of room. the tach was reading 4500 rpm. you can feel the downforce pushing the car down with no front end float at all. i had a friend with me and this was like 4 am tues morning 5 months ago, making a few passes down rt 10 with the radar on before i made my pass. now with that said i haven't hit that speed again since then and don't plan on it. but in all the other cars i've driven, mustangs, camaro's and my own 82 Z/28 3rd gen cammy the vette is the best at these speeds! the 82 cammy hit 155mph at 6500 rpm before i switched to a 3:42 rear gear then it was abotu 135-140mph top end. i could feel the rear end sucking down but the front seemed to be floating a bit cause of the front headlights would be my guess.

LT1/LT4's make more HP the more miles you put on it. proven fact from PHR.

I got 123 mph one late night... I ran out of road by my house. I think i would get pretty nervous on public roads at about 150 mph. Thats my goal. Arround here streets are just to bumpy and unpreditable, potholes, etc to have any fun.

MRANT212 = I also hit the 100's every time I go on the NJ Turnpike, it's just so darn easy with the Corvette... you'll have better luck south, exits 3-4-5 or so, the roads are pretty nice, straight and like 7-8 miles between exits. Vroooooom.

Just a note, Yesterday I was driving my 1997 Eagle Talon ESI. It is a 2.0l DOHC 5-speed manual, Ive added a AEM Cold Ait kit, and Apexi N1 catback exhaust, rated at 140 HP and 130 torqu stock, I got it up to 125 MPH yesterday. It would probaly top out at 130 if I have enough road.

And my 1984 72 horsepower VW Rabbit would do 94 mph...

What's your point?

In 1993, I cruised up I-65 at 125 MPH from Montgomery to Birmingham.. took 43 minutes to cover those 98 miles. The highest I ever had that car was 140 MPH on the cruise control with the A/C on! It was showing 3350 at 140 in 6th. To achieve top speed, one would have to be in 5th.

At Portland Int'l Raceway, I've been to just a bit over 130 on the long straight while in 3rd gear (auto). On a trip to Montana a few years ago I got up to where 159/160 was flashing on the speedometer. That was going down a very slight grade coming down Lookout Pass on I-90.

Is your Vette stock?

Except for B&B TriFlo's and a K&N filter, yes.

top speed...

glad to see im not the only speed freak. i got my 91 up to 149 mph on ocean parkway. only mods were borlas and i had my friend with me. felt real good. those of us from long island know this road very well.

6 shooter,

Oh, not much, I am only a member, two other guy in our vette club are member too, a few others are member of the black sheep. It is just for fun.

You have a hot corvette, LT4. We do not see them very much in the Netherlands. And fast too, you can do a lot of things too that vette of yours, too make a lot faster. If I had the money, I would buy one too. Reverse cooling, isn't it? 330 hp.

I bet it runs 170 plus.

Johnny,

Yes, it's suppose to be possible of 170+. Someday I'll find a patch of wide open road (no bears) and give it a try. :upthumbs

Your Vette is also Very Sharp L@@king!

Later,
6 Shooter
