bright red 1984 crossfire
well it took almost a year of nut and bolt parts, advice from everyone and finally i did it!! with the help of a lot of you guys!! ultimately the problem was the fuel pump like a few of you said, i swaped out the original equipment pump and installed a 1985 bosch fuel pump and i gotta tell you, what once was a bit of a slug is now actually not a bad running car.... nothing like the old mans 07 of course but now when i gun it you can feel it! now i can concentrate on getting it painted :upthumbs

thanks again to all you guys who helped with this godforsaken car:beer

click the link, if ya live close stop on by..... i told you all ask for bill..... i got the first round:beer

Congratulations!!!!

Doesn't it feel great to drive your car without worrying!

Does this mean your going to keep the Crossfire?

Ahh another satisfied customer! :upthumbs

You should still consider making sure those TBs are synchronized....especially if they have ever been removed! Also check for throttle shaft bore wear...another common area for performance woes (small maybe, but hey every little bit helps!)

Bill

Glad to hear its doing better!!!!

yup gonna keep my crossfire and my 5 thousand dollars :D

actually runs pretty damn good right now

i will never figure this possesed machine out.... .if i start my car and let it warm up for 1 minute or 10 minutes and head out my road and down the hill EVERY freakin time in the same spot on the same turn heading down the hill it sputters and pretty much stalls out. i gotta throw it in nuetral and give it some gas to keep it going....full tank of gas, half tank, empty, stone cold or at running temp.... now if i leave the house and take a right and head up the hill, never a sputter or a spit, runs like a champ.... same spot every time..... i think its just messin with me!.... it nver does it anywhere else!!

trace the fuel line.. look to see if it is getting pinched by any chance
i am going to be wracking my brain cause i remember this happening to a friends car.. similar thing and trying to remember what exactly it was..

i thought about that and checked..... its just bizzare cause it only does it on that one turn going down hill!! go up the hill it runs fine.... its going down the hill to the right and just at idle and it just wants to die for maybe 1/8th of a mile...

personalyy i think its god laughing at me cause where it dies is within seconds of my local competition (another bar) and as i roll by my car is running like crap as they all stand outside to smoke so i have to let it coast past before i get it running right...... very strange;shrug

Maybe God* put some sludge in your fuel tank that is clogging up the fuel pump pickup sock going downhill.;LOL
Seriously.

And don't try too hard to get the fuel lines off between the carbs.
I have one set of TB's that the threads stripped completely out of because "I just had to the the lines off and measure the fuel pressure".
It ain't worth it!

you would think that could be a possibility right...then how come it doesnt do it on other hills.... and when i replaced the fuel pump i got a real good look at the inside of my tank and its nice and clean! .... and i gave up on the fuel line for now.... im not gonna go and screw something up for nothing!

how are your motor and tranny mounts? the vacuum line to the tranny... is it or another line getting pinched... thats a stretch huh

get a new fuel pump. bet your fuel pressure is below the 10psi it takes to keep it running properly.

'82 doesn't have a vacuum line to the transmission...and he already replaced the fuel pump.

Hey hotshot I just remembered something that happened to mine a while back. Have a look at the 12V supply wire to the distributor (big pink wire as I recall). I had a problem where it was rubbing up against the intake manifold and eventually shorted out while going around a corner. This is NOT a fused line...its only "protection" is fusible links in the wires near the starter (at least that's how it is setup on the 84s). Maybe your "intermittent hiccup" is electrical?

I had a similar problem. Car ran great most of the time. But, would sputter or stall on hill in same spot depending on speed I was driving! Turns out it was the "extra" GM diagnostic wire/lead off of the distributer. It was basicly occasionally bouncing around then grounding and causing the car to stall. If I had sufficient momentum it would move after briefly grounding and car would keep running. Snip! No problem since!

i had a little fuel pump problem but thats fixed and its running great again.... except around that damn turn!!:mad im telling you its a gremlin!
