I want to take the cruise control out of my '79. It hasn't worked for years and I wouldn't use it if it did. I would like to eliminate as many unused vacuum lines as possible. Does the Transduces and Power Unit serve any purpose other than cruise control? If i remove them and their vacuum lines (and cap the vacuum connections) will it have any other effect on the car?

You will have to replace the speedo cable with the one peice one. and make sure you tape up and secure the wires to the transducer so you dont get a short. took mine off my 79 didnt use it. have not had any problems with it

Thanks n8dogg. Amazingly enough it looks like it already has a one piece speedo cable! Looking back over the service records from the previous owner it looks like the speedo cable was replaced in '95 by a local gas station. Glad i never tried to use the cruise control - it would have been interesting! Did you remove the Power Unit as well?

I bought a transducer from Ecklers a few years back and it works flawlessly--better than the one in my 2010 VW Sport Wagon. I use it all the time on the highway--saves on gas like a big dog.
