I am having trouble with the speedometer on my 1981, it either doesn't move at all or it jumps between 30 -35 mph at all times. I have checked both cables and they are OK. I have just replaced the transducer and it still does the same thing. Any ideas or help?

Cables

I have checked both cables and they are ok so I did not replace them. One time for about 10 minutes everything wowrked OK and then back to the way it was.

Try disconnecting the cable at the tranny end and have a helper watch the speedo while you turn the cable with the drill. Put the drill in reverse and it should run up to about 50MPH. You can vary the speed and see where the problem may be. It also may be that the cables need to be lubed.

Terry.... a real common problem with '81's. Almost always the cable(s). Sometimes you need to replace them both.

Good luck.......... Nut
