Hey Mark, nice to see a fellow FFld County boy with a C2. I have only had experience with one mechanic on my 65, and while he is diligent and adamant about going it right, I get the impression he is learning as he goes.

And I see him in the mirror every morning.

Aside from the crap humor, it does matter what you are looking to have done, some shops are for paint, others are for engine, etc. And, if it is something that could be done in your garage or mine, then we could tackle it. I am in Wspt, by the way.

Vette,
Where is your shop. Like to stop by and say hello.

Currently have my car at a shop in westchester. He like every one, is super busy. However my car has been there 7 weeks ! There is alot to do I think I may need another shop, not quite sure yet. Thanks all. Mark (sixty4) dont get me wrong. this car is not having any paint or body work being done. this is what it went in for mufflers, sparetire carrier, alignment, and motor fine tuning, one wheel bearing, and the good once over . I like the person who owns the shop but every time I go down there little is done, every time I go down I offer if he needs anything (money) the point being you need to start inorder to finish. Thanks for letting me vent and am I off base here.

7 weeks? and you are already complaining? ;LOL

That's a good one, eh Barry? :beer

Mark, check some of Barry's past posts and the Corvette pages of his website to get some history on this "inside" joke.

sorry Mark, wasn't making fun of you. I undersatand what it's like to be waiting for you car in a shop. sometimes even just a single day seems like it's too long of a wait.
Having work go slowly, but progressively, is one thing but from the sounds of it he isn't doing anything at all on your car. If that's the case than I'd consider finding another shop.

No problem, no offense taken. Besides, misery loves company, at least I'm not the only one... :beer

I'm the first to understand that work that needs to be done the right way takes the time that it takes. I also realize that Corvettes are very much a specialty and guys who know what they're doing aren't exactly a dime a dozen. So those that do specialize are probably swamped given the popularity of the cars. My frustration is that when I do call in to check on progress, there is little of it. I think the guy knows his stuff, so his ability isn't in question. However, all the knowledge in the world doesn't help if it isn't used to execute the work.

Mark,
Can not really agree with your statment that Corvettes require specialist to work on them. They are only plastic Chevrolets. Parts are relatively easy to get and most GOOD mechanics should not have any rproblems working on one. We just tend to over state the car just because its old.

Unfortunately, the key word is "should" not have a problem. To a certain extent, I do agree with you that most good mechanics should have no problem. The problem is finding the right good mechanic. There are plenty of folks out there who have reputations as "good" mechanics (I've gone to a few). I believe the guy I have the car at now is good, as far as his abilities go, it's just getting him to devote the time required to do my work. Of course, that's the other part of being "good", managing the work you've taken on, keeping the customer updated, delivering (reasonably close to) when promised, etc.

Do you have first hand experience with the two you posted about? I wish that I had more experience to be able to do my own work but I do not. It's like my trade - most plumbers/heating guys should be able to repair the old stuff, but can't. Why? Because it's easier to replace.
Time to get off my soap box and look for a good mechanic. Thanks for the names.

The body shop is on N.Main st in Seymour. The mech garage is on S Main st in Seymour. You can call me at 203 888 4018. Brian G.
