Cyclical Squeaking Sound in Dash

When I drive my 1967 I normally have the stereo turned on to drown out the C2 creaks and groans. That is my only option as I do not have sidepipes or chambered underbody exhaust. But mornings such as today the Wife enjoys occupying the passenger seat and the stereo remains shut off. That's when the squeak appears (not from the Wife) or more correctly is noticed.

It is cyclical and rpm-dependent, increasing in frequency with speed. Nothing at idle. It's one of those things that can drive you crazy. It seems to come from the dash, suggesting a tach or speedo cable. But both instruments work well and I do not have needle bounce. I have a professional engine sound locator (length of rubber garden hose) but I don't relish the thought of explaining to the local Police why I was driving down the boulevard with a garden hose stuck in my ear. Do tach and/or speedo cables squeak? Anyone had a similar experience?

OK, so I strain my back and pull those cables off under the dash and drain some graphite lube into them?

I'm sure you have some leftover from doing your exhaust manifolds :D

Guess I'm just still young and limber... I changed my speedo cable in about 10 minutes yesterday... To those of you that don't know... Buy some 1/4-20 all thread and use 6" lengths to support your gauge cluster after you remove the 5 screws that hold the cluster in... Dave..

Isn't the small block called the "mouse" engine? Maybe the squeaking is... :D

Never thought of that. There might be a mouse on a hamster exercise wheel under the hood....

I'll try that. Didn't have time today. Getting ready to move. So many things on the go!
