I'm trying to avoid pulling the dash out . . there are three wires that are unconnected and hopefully someone can help . . . there is a pale pink or flesh colored wire coming from the back of the instrument cluster connected to nothing, a brown wire connected to nothing, and a ground wire coming from the emergency handle bracket bolt ( which I"m guessing is not factory) connected to nothing. The only symptom is I have no ingition lights or warning lights or dash lights. thanks!

Interesting. Remember several years ago I picked up a '57 F/I ? car from a fellow over in New Mexico. Took it home and started anaylzing it's problems and just what I wanted to do with the car. Laid down on my back, with a flash light, to see what the wiring harness looked like. ALL blue wires, ALL !!! I mean everywhere, blue wires. Guess he found a sale on wiring at WalMart. Picked up a new harness from Corvette Central.

My suggestion to you is the same route I took before I bought the new harness. Bought a wiring harness diagram. There's one in the back of the AIM but found another larger, laminated version a Bloomington.

63 diagram shows:

Brown wires connecting to the ACC terninal of the ignition switch, to the heater switch, to the fuel gauge, and to a radio capacitor.

Flesh could be "neutral"... one runs from the stop light switch to the connector at the directional signal switch at the lower steering column; another attaches to the headlight switch (but should be in a large multi-connector as part of a harness); another goes tp the w/s wiper switch; and two more to the door jamb switches for the courtesy lights.

Thanks alot!! I did order a shop manual and wiring diagram . . . I just wonder what the guy that had this car was thinking!! I guess he wasnt!!

No dash lights: fuse out, light switch dimmer connection fried/on, no ground on the cluster base, bulbs burned, grey feed wire broken.

No ignition lamp: See dash lamps above

No warning lights: no ground on instrument cluster, bulbs out, wires broken.

PS You should have seen mine 17 years ago - had two electrical fires driving it home (2 miles) the day I bought it. All the fuses were wrapped with chewing gum (foil) wrappers. They don't think; they just do.

Sounds like fun.

And at least the fuses weren't replaced with 22 caliber rifle shells....

The tan wire (if it's tan) connects to the switch on the parking brake assembly for the parking brake warning light in the cluster. The brown wire goes to a radio capacitor on the back of the cluster near the ignition switch - if the capacitor is missing, tape up the connector on the brown wire - it's HOT. If you have no dash lights, the cluster ground wire (black, connects to a male spade terminal on the back of the cluster can near the park brake warning light) is probably not connected or missing - this will also make your lighter and wipers inoperative.
