'81 Black
Hello,

I have a 81. Now i have the change i have written down all the numbers on the block and birdcage. The question i have is. I have 2 color numbers on the drivers doorplate but the are the same. Is this normale to have a upper and lower code even when the vette has only one color?
Please let me know. If there is some other interesting stuff in the numbers i would be glad to hear it :)

Driversdoor:

B 088 "inverted T"05063
"inverted T"31 33L 33U E
Chevrolet

Engine numbers:
VOB102DB
1B510508

VIN:
1G1AY8764B5105063

Groeten Peter.

:w Peter,

I'll take a stab at it ;)

Bowling Green built, August 8, 1981 (B 088)
VIN ~ S/N: 05063 (T05063)
*Exterior, Silver
*Interior, Silver Leather

* I didn't find a code for 31, but my best guess is that your car is single color not two tone, and it is Silver with Silver Leather interior, from others I've seen with similar Trim Tags.

The engine numbers ... where did you find these numbers, Head, Block, Dist, Carb ???

Hopefully Bill or someone with NCRS numbers can help you a bit more.

Peter..your 'inverted'Ts" is actually the #1 so 131 on the 2nd line is the color of your interior...'silver gray',cloth or leather

the 'U' and the 'L' in the next two are the upper and lower paint colors(bowling green started using 2 tone paint schemes...st.louis did not)

the 2nd set of numbers off of your engine #'s corresponds with the vin IF you got this off of the boss on the right front of your engine, just below the head then you have a matching numbers engine.

V0(B?)102BD....
V Indicates the Flint Michigan V8 assembly plant
oB?-(B should be a number)it is the month of assembly..(eg 04 would be
april)
10 date of the month of assembly
2BD...2 should be a Z..ZDB denotes automatic,California built corvette

hope this helps,Peter..

Now Bill tuned in, I'll edit my reply ;)

Thank you Bud and Bill.
So if i understand correctly even if a 81 has the same colors upper and lower half they still have two the same colorcode's?

One of the previous owners did a very good job on my vette. When i bought it she had a 91 Charcoal exterior paint job and a all black interior. Now i'm rebuilding my vette, I heard from different side's to leave the vette original (interior) but as i read it now, there is nothing in the interior to keep original :)

The engine numbers are indeed from the right front side. Nice to see you can correct my sloppy writing. I'll look again for the weird B, maybe it's a 8 but then the engine has a later building date as the vette itself.
Thanks for the info!

Peter,

I saw a bunch of Silver interior items for sale in ebay. I would recommend that the seller send you pictures of the items before actually bidding on these.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1981-CORVETTE-SILVER-INTERIOR-PACKAGE-VERY-NICE-ITEMS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQitemZ4611659251QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

The cushions and covers new would cost around $700.00, and the steering wheel new would cost about $200.00, but if you have the money to go with new, then go for it. Some items though are not available even through Corvette parts outfits. Like the arm rests. Rick's Corvettes was able only to sell me a black arm rest that I painted to match.

Thanks for the info Gerry,

The interior is going to be a costum made, but some people on our dutch forum said leaving it original (black) would be better. Now i know black isn't original I'm standing even stronger to do with it whatever i want. I could also go back to silver but you only life ones so... ;)
I'm trying to go with a all leather interior and put in new black carpet, some slightly changes here and there and I'll look just the way i want it :)
This picture i altered to resemble what i want:

Peter,

That looks cool. I replaced my seat side-bolsters in black Vinyl:

I am also planning on replacing the door panel upper vinyl strip with the same black vinyl.

Thanks for the positive reactions everyone.

You got a nice color combo with the black side bolsters and the (future) upper door-panels Gerry! I think it really gives the car a different look with these extra accents.

The interior picture is from a month or longer ago but just yesterday i looked at the original 81 sales brochure and saw almost the same color as a standard option color. Funny to see i photoshoped the color lighter and darker etc etc and at the end i have a option color from back in 81 :D

@Bud,

Not looking at the B 088 but at the vin number, is the 8th of august not a little late?
The BG production begin around the 1st of June 1981. And reach from:

1G1AY8764B5100001 - 1G1AY8764B5108995 (B.Green)

Mine is B5105063 so lets say it was build at 55 to 60% of the total production time. I alway thought they build corvettes till august or September so that would set my building date back a few months or am i wrong?

Groeten Peter.
