Well, out of boredom and curiosity, I Removed the lid off my airfilter and cut a nice big rectangle opening. I went 1/2" in from the strapes and the same height as the factory opening. Same goes for the bottom cut. But here might be the bad part, I went ahead w/ the removal of the screen in the MAF. Car runs fine and still pulls as hard as before. Only noticeable difference is the quicker response in the rpms. I'm still running the stock airfilter cause I'll be getting a Blackwing in couple weeks (vettefest in Chicago).

I wouldn't say it is a no no, but the paper stock filter does not like water. So that is the only thing I can think of as a problem, if the old filter gets wet somehow. I have the Blackwing too. I think you will be happy with the performence and easy cleaning of it. I also replaced my stock air bridge to the throttlebody. You may consider that too. There are other mods. that I would recommend. Another is the 160 degree thermostat and coolant by-pass. I'm shopping for a new throttlebody, and I think I have found one that is suitable. TPIS now makes a 90mm 1200 cfm oval throttlebody. That is the one I will purchase. Have fun and enjoy!

if you're gonna leave it, get a K&N..............otherwise stay away from puddles...........

Do you run the coolant bypass in temps less then freezing? Also, did you notice a seat of the pants difference in performance?

you can cut the existing lid, or upgrade to the lid that came with the '02 Z06.
