Dietsch scores first ever ASA Late Model Series win at I-70 Speedway

ODESSA, Mo. -- The Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title chase is shaping up not only to decide who is the top Freshman in the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts, but the overall champion could very well come from a talented group of first year competitors in the series. Much like the 2004 season when Bobby Stremme not only won the Rookie title, but the overall series title as well! Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie Points leader, Brian Campbell is also the overall point’s leader in the season long point’s chase, but Jason Dietsch may have something to say to Campbell before the season is over! Dietsch looks to be one of those top freshman competitors as the Buckeye State driver won his first career series feature in the Kansas City Star 100 at the I-70 (MO) Speedway on Saturday June 18, 2005.

Dietsch started on the outside pole along-side pole sitter, Jim Ross to begin the Kansas City Star 100. Dietsch led the first 12 laps before Jack Smith passed him for the lead. Dietsch maintained his composure and settled down in second spot. When Smith ran out of gas on the restart at lap 60, Jason took the lead back, but his work was far from over as the Buckeye State driver had to first fend off Sophomore Sensation, Landon Cassill and in the waning stages of the race, Motive Gear Pole Award winner, Brian Campbell. Dietsch was up to the challenge however as the Edgerton, Ohio pilot would hold off Campbell to score his first career series win.

"I just can’t believe we won this deal with all those guys that were behind us." Said a jubilant Dietsch in victory lane at I-70. "This crew worked so hard and to do this without any major sponsors is just amazing. I’ve never been here before but this place reminds me of Winchester and a little bit of Salem. We ran those tracks in our Modified and this place is similar. This is just great!" Ended a happy Dietsch.

For winning his first career ASA Late Model Series victory, Dietsch picked up a gaggle of awards to go along with his winnings. Amongst the items Dietsch will receive include: A $200 gift Certificate from Howe Racing Enterprises, one of Dietsch’s sponsors! Dietsch began his racing career in off-road ATV three-wheelers. From there, he moved to motocross racing. He then found the sport of kart racing and spent five years honing his driving skills in a kart. He bought his first modified in 1995 and joined the INCAR Jasper Modified Series (Now USA Modifieds tour) while also learning on the short tracks in Indiana, Ohio, and the surrounding areas. The Buckeye State driver won the 2003 series championship and also has gained experience in the CRA Super Series.

Jason made two appearances in the now defunct ASA National Tour in 1999, and four more showings in 2004. In those 2004 starts, Dietsch picked up one top five which was an impressive fourth place showing at Kentucky Speedway. Another top 10 finish was recorded at the Atlanta (GA) Motor Speedway where he finished 10th. Also in 2004, Dietsch again competed with the USA Modifieds series full-time where he finished a strong second place in the final point’s chase.

Dietsch is still seeking more sponsorship as he makes a run for the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year championship in the ASA Late Model Series. The biggest weekend in series history as well as the biggest weekend the state of Michigan has seen in several seasons is drawing near! The Mid-Michigan Double Weekend Presented by the Michigan Racing Scene is next for the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts. Friday July 1st will be the Kalamazoo 100 Presented by Tough Coat Powder Coatings at the Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway in Alamo, Michigan. Then the next day, Saturday July 2nd, it will be the Snap-On Tools 100 Presented by Lane Automotive and Q106fm at the Calhoun County (MI) Speedway in Springport, Michigan. I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO.

I-70 Speedway is a very tough track, I've been there many times back when the NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series used to run there.
It's a high banked "bull-ring" kind of like Bristol Motor Speedway, only nobody parks in the infield so you can see the entire track from almost every seat.
It is a FAST track for being so short. Many NASCAR Trucks have been on there roofs. I've seen Bob Kesolowski actually flip over the outside barrier between turns 1 & 2 and leave the track! :W
I like I-70 better than Gateway Raceway in St. Louis, from a spectators point of view anyway!
