I have been reading the posts and web sites about repairing my 84 Digital dash. I was hoping someone my be able to narrow down my problem if I explain the what it is doing and not doing. Well here goes.
The dash lights up very well. The only thing that works is the left turn sig. and the high beem indacator. Everything is out, everything. Also when I turn on the right sig. the dash lights dim with each flash. I do not know if the cruse works, but no light, I have a 4spd with 3 spd overdrive, none of those lights work.
I am hoping it is a ground. Can anyone tell me if this sounds like a bad ground?

Also thanks for your help on my steering column, The people here are great.

When the high beam and turn signal lamps come on, it is a bad ground. Its either a loose wire in the engine or youll have to take apart the digidash unit and resolder some things on the circuit boards that have come loose.

Best thing you can do is take it apart, resolder, and replace all the bulbs in it.

Thank Vader

Only the right turn sig. lights up not both, You still think ground?

This is similar to the problem I was having, though both turn signals and hibeam indicators worked, the rest of the dash was black. It would work occasionally, but hit a bump or flex the case of the indicator, and black it would become.

I took apart the dash and soldered at least 40 of the joints on the small power supply board that is mounted to the main board. That and replacing the ribbon cable from the power supply board to the main board. I don't recommend any of this unless you have experience working with circuit boards.

Batte.com has lots of good information that I used while doing this. Good luck.

PS, my speedo and odometer still don't work correctly, so in the end I still will be sending the dash in for repair. I feel it will be too time consuming to located all of the chips that make of the speedo circuit.

Or pull it out & send it to me

Send me an E mail
