I was told by a member of my Vette Club that it doesn't look as if I have the stock dipstick tube on my motor. He is very knowegable on the C2's having owned a good number of them and restored them himself achieving Topflights on all his restorations - the most recent being a '65 396 BB. He is self-admitted of more BB knowegable than SB though but he said my dipstick tube just doesn't look stock.
I looked in the LICS cat and see that for all the 327 motors there are basically 2 dipsticks tubes.
327 (ALL) 8" '63-'64
327 (ALL) 9" '65-'67
my question is how to properly measure my tube to make sure i have the right model in my car. is the proper 9" that I should have measured only from the open end down to where it enters the block, or do I have to remove the tube first and measure from tip to tip? how much of the tube actually is inside the block when it is installed? is it easy to remove the tube and replace it if needed?
My friend's '65 had the wrong tube on his car when he first got it. He wondered why his oil readings were always off until he discovered the wrong tube and replaced it with the correct one.
