1991 Medium Quasar Blue Callaway Twin Turbo SOLD!
Yep, right here in the Motor City for a special on the C6 Corvette. Several members of America's Corvette Club were invited to join the editor of Corvette Quarterly Jerry Burton to have a "round table" discussion of what Corvette owners expected in the C6. We went to a local coney island restaurant with 12 Corvettes comprised of 10 C5s, the Callaway and a pristine 1961 Fuelie.

The producer was a gentleman from Australia who was given exclusive access to the movers and shakers at GM who are creating the next generation car. Jerry lead the discussion as the camera crews filmed and moved the directional microphone around the table. The other lunchtime customers were really puzzled by what was going on and the parking lot crammed with Vettes.

After the round table discussion, they needed some "cut away" shots so I volunteered the Callaway to be used for 'arriving' and 'leaving' the restaurant. They took footage from two different angles, a knees down version and a 'head to toe' version. They also conducted interviews with two ladies who own and drive C5s. I'm betting they make the show and only my shoes will be used when they roll the credits.... :D

The producer decided he wanted some footage taken while driving on Woodward. We filmed a couple of questions of why I liked Corvettes, what was the reason I purchased one, what were the details of the Callaway and some other questions regarding the Corvette club. And of course the prerequisite "Are you going to buy a new C6 when it comes out?"

When I looped around to go back, the opening in traffic presented the perfect opportunity to spool up the turbos and let the car loose. Needless to say with the huge, heavy production camera being held by hand, it bounced around quite a bit during gear changes, so that footage will end up on the cutting room floor...... oh well it put a tremendous smile on my face...... the camerman was probable ticked......

The show is supposed to come out in March of next year and should be very interesting. The Discovery channel sometimes offers the shows for sale on DVD. If they do that one, I'll just have to break down and buy it.

The coolest part was after all the filming was completed and I was looping back around (again) to drop off the cameraman, we come up to a new Mustang with a different hood intake. I stop next to him and roll down the passenger window, inquiring about the hood, thinking it might be the Roush Racing version. He says 'it's just the standard shaker option'. He asks whats up with the camera. The cameraman informs him it's the Discovery channel coverage of the Corvette C6. Mustang driver responses, "Oh, so that's a Callaway....". I don't think he knew what C6 meant. Oh well.

It'll be interesting to see what shows up in March. It would really be cool if they had all the out-takes on the DVD but I doubt that GM would allow anything like that. It'll be polished and packaged by the marketing people and turn into an hour long info-mercial.

Anyway, it certainly made my Halloween afternoon......
