Ok, passenger side, back of engine top, there is a flexpipe wrapped with heat sheild cloth os some type, it goes under by the distibuter and then down to the lower part of the engine. in the back close to the distibuter is a ceramic sensor? what would that be called? Mine is cracked and lose at the top where the wire comes from it. I can get a picture if needed.

A pic would help. Be sure to have lotsa light too, and have an arrow or finger on the unknown object. (I cain't see that good anymore.)

ok here is the do hicky, so what is it?

It looks like the heat riser tube that connects from the exhaust manifold to the sensor on the intake (the correct term escapes me). Anyway there is a wire coming out of the sensor. Basically, it functions for the purpose of telling your EGR when to open, if I'm not mistaken.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong. But it is related to the EGR.

Great pic !!! It looks very clear. I'll show it to my mechanic at the dealers. They're good with this stuff. i have exactly the same thing on my 89. Stands to reason they're both L98 engines.

Hmm tells the EGR when to work huh? Well that may be related to my idle problem afterall then. I did replace the IAC and so far so good, but the problem was rare and not predictible so I have no idea (without driving) if i have fixed it. its ceramic with a metal shaft in center (temp sensor of some type im guessing) and the ceramic is cracked, I was assuming it was probebly still working (and maybe it is), but figured I would replace it just in case. Local parts stores here are not the best when "describing" where parts and so on, they need specific names and I have no idea on waht that one would be called. So if anybody knows, please let me know. Thanks for checking Tony.

Tony, link doesnt work for me, but it is that part, $10 in town here (YA!) now since its exhuast lets hope it comes apart relativly easy. Thanks again guys for the help!

Should just unscrew from the heat riser pipe. I wouldn't suggest taking off the pipe since it is held onto the exhaust manifold with a compression ring that has to be cut off and replaced with a new one.
