1984 CFI Supercharged Midnight Blue
ok my buddy has a 1984 Corvette CFI for sale for only $5500 to me. we're both military police. i have seen a few pictures of this car and it looks outstanding. all maintanance and repairs have been done by certified corvette dealer's. it has roughly 73k miles, and a new 1 year old paint job because it got keyed. it also has a 400$ sound system, 2500$ Zo6 rims wrapped in Z-rated racing tires 1000$, a brand new targa top 800$. he said it also has a mint interior as well as exterior other than a minor scratch on the driver side door. The car is also supercharged and runs 13.3 1/4 mile. i have not driven this car but 4 other people that i know say that this is a one of a kind that should not be passed up and they easily value it over 10000$. what do you guys think i need as much input as possible.

I know nothing about C4's, but welcome to :CAC

Welcome!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center.
I'd have to say, if the condition is as you presented it here, you should buy it. It certainly sounds like it has been taken care of and has lots of extra goodies to boot!

How do you like Korea? My nephew spent two years there, had a short stay back in the States and was then sent to Djibouti, Africa last fall. He didn't care for Korea, said the Korean police greatly disliked the Army/US Military and made no bones about it.

If you like it, and everything with the car checks out then I would say it is a straightforward decision. You know the owner so that is good. I guess just go with your gut.

well im pretty much buying it now. stupid bank wont let me take out enough money at once but im gonna go with my gut. i've already talked to 3 more people who seen the car at ft bragg and said its in really good condition and pretty much congradulating me for buying it. also he was on the fone with his wife and told her that he was gonna be selling me it for 5500$ and she almost started crying and kept saying why why why i've had people offer over 10000 for it. she didnt know i was listening and that from his wife who hates the car because its too fast and dangerouson another note, korea....well i cant say its great because im not really a tourist all that much, my time is limited always and i've been to almost every single post here since im a Military Police Officer. would i wanna come back......probably not just because of all the extra crap that comes with it between changing of schedule/lack of communication/no speaking english off post. im here for a year and am gonna be iron manning it(no leave for the entire year) so i will have a fresh new toy when i come home. my parents definately didnt agree with me buying this car but i am very wise with the money i do have and i see it as an investment. its the 18th coupe ever made. my mom was the one screaming on the phone while my dad pretty much said its my decision and very risky seeing is how i am not exactly able to examine the car before i buy it. i have mixed feelings as well but now i see that i am going to just splurge and buy it. im only 19 and now an owner of a piece of history. by chance would anyone know how old the car has to be in order for it to become considered a collector/antique car for insurance as well as storage purposes?

thanks for the warm welcome ill be here quite often

can anyone give an honest estimate of what this car is worth from the details i provided.....2003 zo6 rims 2500$, 1 yr old paint job, 1000$ z-rated racing tires, brand new targa top800$,400-500$ sound system, mint interior/exterior. only problems is a small scratch on the driver door, 1 headlight motor fails to go up/down(common problem), antenna fails to go up/down(common problem), no a/c.

anyone out there that can help?

Okay, have you gone ahead and bought this car?
The reason I ask is, I am wondering why this guy didn't put it on the
"Lemon Lot" at Bragg, I would guess he could probably get more than $5500.00 for it there. Just curious is all.
Tell me where this vehicle is located, and I will take a look at it for you. I am not an expert by any means but I can give you a third party opinion of it's overall appearence.

I don't know if those Z06 rims cost that much money. If it's a good paint job, it was probably in the $2,500 neighborhood.

What kind of tires are they?

The headlight motor failing to work is probably a bushing. It's a real easy do it yourself fix for $5.00 and a few hours of work.

From what I just read, the car sholud be worth over $10,000. My 84 doesn't appear to be quite up to par with the car you are describing and "I" wouldn't sell my vette for under $10,000.

i will only say this.

if your buying it for an investment your making the wrong move. already modded i don't care if it had 0 miles on it. once you supercharge it and do all the other mods the car depreciates fairly quick. unless of course the next person is buying it to drive it that is the only reason you *could* make money off it. anyone that is buying a car for an investment stores them and they are mostly if not pure virgin stock.

to me buying cars for an investment isn't being smart with your money. find a good broker and invest heavily in high yield mutual funds and you'll actually will see your money grow :D

now if you want to buy the car to drive it and have fun with it buy it! but don't expect to make money off of it as an investment. you may be able to sell it for what you paid in a year or 2 if it stays in the same condition after that i doubt it because of the milage already on it.

Being an 84 owner I can appreciate the situation here. I agree with Mad-Mic that if it is all modded that it will not return much if anything on investment. Even a good low mile stock 84 in excellent shape would have hard time cracking the 10k barrier. If it were my money I would save it and wait till I return to the states and buy a Driver Vette that you can restore as you drive and know you'll have a more sound investment. Just my .02

How many miles has the supercharger been on it? That will kill the motor after 20k or so (I've heard). (that's if the bottom end is stock)

I would love to see how a supercharger got squeezed into an 84’s engine compartment and how it was fabricated to work with the Cross Fire’s throttle bodies. Very interesting. :_rock
