Hi, i just got my red C5 and wanted to ask the others if they have had or know of others who found that the color red attracts extra interest from the police,
and in turn, a high amount of tickets

Hi Dave 1998,
That's why I bought a blue Vette. Unfortunately, it didn't stop me from getting a speeding ticket.

I'd say it makes you stand out a lot more.

Invest in a detector, best money you can spend

Last ticket I got was in my RED 72 Pantera......70 in a 65. That should tell you something!!!

Any red car gets you more tickets. I've been pulled over at least 4 times in my red Mustang in about a 5 year period. Never in my white Corvette in about the same time period, and only once in both black Corvette's over several years, for doing well over a 100 on I-5 in Calif.

I never got a tix in my red 87 nor my white 73 for that matter. I guess I've been lucky. I had an ex brother in law who was driving his "red' Testarosa on the Atlantic City Expressway at the legal speed and was pulled over by the police. He told him he was doing 50+ over the speed limit which he wasn't. The officer told him to go fight it in court he said a "red" sports car , no one will believe you. Well he was an attorney and he had his day in court- he won.

When I have seen Corvettes pulled over, it has invariably been either a red or the millenium yellow color. Both colors are highly visible and they seem to dare the constabulary to write them up. For some reason, white does not have the same effect. So far, my black Coupe has been in stealth mode. The only other thing to do is to get a radar detector - get the best you can afford; saving a few bucks on a detector is a false economy. (While you might save $20 - $50, you could end up paying way more than that in fines and increased insurance premiums....)

I know at one time, the majority of all cars sold were at least some sort of red in color, so it only makes sense that more red cars will get citations. If they are using a laser, it is pointed at an individual car. If it is a typical radar unit, it sends out a wave and measures cars coming at the radar and gives a speed. It is up to the officer to determine which one is going the fastest. Most officers have been trained to just look at a moving vehicle and determine the speed at which it is going.

Unless you know that the area you are driving in is a speed trap, keep it at about 5-8mph over the limit and you shouldn't have much problem.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I would like to hear more

We were just discussing this very subject Saturday night when the club went out for dinner. Those of us with red cars all agreed that it feels like we attract a lot of eyes when we are on the road, cops and otherwise. I myself seem to drive slower in the Vette than with my other cars simply because I feel the red attracts too much attention. Although when we do go on a cruise we do "occasionally" exceed the speed limit.

BTW A new member joined us on Saturday with a 2003 Z06 with a Billy Boat exhaust system. Sounds like an Indy car. Extremely nice and he said he's had it to 155 before scaring himself.

Both of my tickets have come in my dad's black Camaro :cry I drive my Vette and my bike above the speed limit and never have any problems, but when I get behind the wheel of his car, it's like cops are looking for me. :mad

Welcome, I sure hope red vettes get more tickets, MINES WHITE!!:L Ireally dont think thats true, My work truck is RED!!!!!! I drive it LIKE I HATE IT and no tickets YET!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK WITH THE C-5 Paul:D

I've been very lucky a couple of times in my '03 red coupe. Lost one police officer...although I wasn't trying to loose him, he just didn't make the same turn I did and off he went. Another time a scooter man pegged me going 48 in a 35, but just told me to slow down. I too need to invest in a good radar detector. Anyone have a suggestion of one that won't take the rest of my money?

In 1978 I bought a red ford thunderbird with cool chrome wheels. It was a gorgeous car (as ford thunderbirds go), but got me several tickets and for some reason invited a couple of cars to smash into me. It was then that I heard that statisticly speaking red cars are involved in more tickets and crashes than any other car. I'm hoping that was a bogus rumor I heard.

I'm currently on my second “arrest-me red” Corvette in the past 15 years. Either I've been extremely lucky or the Corvette Gods have been smiling down on me. I have never been pulled over for anything while behind the wheel of my Corvettes and I've done my share of burn-outs, mini-drags and the occasional 145+ mph cruises on a particular stretch of local highway. Fortunately, I’ve never encountered the law while committing any of these acts of Corvette normalcy.

Sounds silly to me.........................
Didn't we purchase the car for performance
and to be noticed?
