Do repaired wheels balance OK?

I was wondering if anyone has had a rim repaired (welded or ????) and then mounted a tire and had it balanced? Any problems? Thanks.

If the shop does it right Yes, it will be OK.

The wheel should be balanced before the tire is mounted. This should be done by removing weight from the heavy spots...not adding weight to the other side.

Not sure how you would remove weight in certain areas on a bare rim? Do you mean by grinding metal off the rim? Wouldn't that weaken the rim? Just curious?

When the wheel is dynamically balanced small amounts of metal are removed by drilling very shallow indents into the heavy part of the wheel on the back side or inside. If the wheel is properly repaired the balancing required should be no more than a few grams. The small amount of material removed will not weaken the wheel. When I removed the LTPWS sensors from my wheels I balanced the wheels and then mounted the tires and rebalanced the results was that the most weight need to balance any of the tires was 5 grams.

Yes. Bought a rim which turned out to be cracked on the inside where the tire would seal. Had it welded and trued (wheel guy said it was slightly out of round).

Balanced ok and I have driven the car at high speeds at the drags and I don't get a shake.

I'll agree with the above.
I have a neighbor with a 96 CE, and he had to have a wheel re-welded, because of a crack.

He can't believe what a great job they did. You can't even see it, and he's had zero problems with it.

I had 4 wheels repaired - they are fine , for over 10 yrs, no issues
