"Now that I know that my car has a blackbox and where it is, what happens if I take it out?"

Code Red

An alarm sounds at the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) headquarters as well as the national offices of the American Association of Trial Lawyers. Both parties have an interest in what was going on just prior to and during an accident in your vehicle.

HI there,
What will happen is that your air bags will not work. And the air bag light will stay on all the time.
VERY DANGEROUS.
Allthebest, c4c5

Thanks for the answer...this quote...""Now that I know that my car has a blackbox and where it is, what happens if I take it out?" ...was not MY question...I copied it from another thread in another Forum and posted it here as a point of interes(Lots of Vette owners do not believe it exists)...I would never tamper with GM's electronics......:beer

Kenny - Prosecuting attorneys across the country are beginning to use the "black box" information to formulate their cases. Some defense attroneys have questioned the legality of this tactic but in each instance the judges have let the information in. So "crack pipe" or not, the "black box" is going to become a very crucial instrument in the courts, particularly in vehicular homicide trials.

This should not be a joke:

All GM vehicals from about 1996 on records data for 50 miles on the computer. After 50 miles it dumps it and starts anew. This is for warranty work to see if you have over reved or chged oil prior to engine failure. All GM mechanics know this, or at least the good ones do.....

What computer are you referring to?

These are the guys that recover the last 5 seconds of data from the SDM air bag unit...

My Avlanche as well as my Corvette has an Info Center the computer that controls it can register your last 50 miles. It can tell a mech. any problems you have had by hooking into a diagnostic program computer that a mech. has. Your last 50 miles is crucial to any mechanical problemo's. Your air bag computer is also hooked to it...................
