Does a nod count?

Not about to start the whole C5 wave thing. Just wanted to tell on this dude.

Pulling away from the local Citgo convenience dump and this child swoops in with headphones on and a ball cap. Convertible Anniv. I wave to the fellow. Conditioned Pavlovian response.

He mustered an almost imperceptable nod, not daring to lift his arm. His father who undoubtedly owns the car should give him a pre-flight briefing and promise a pants down spankin' if he don't act right!

Hey I love to stop and talk cars with people. That 'cool' attitude misses out on all the fun:w However if I get an Anny someday that could change. I then would be Master of the Universe.

A nod does count... any acknowledgement should count. I admit, sometimes I am working the wheel and the shifter and notice a fellow Vette and it's owner waving at the last moment. I give a big nod and a smile if I can't wave.

I'm w/ tlong...

The nod is like..."yeah I see you, so what?" :eyerole

I'm with 74 bigblock . Sometimes a last minute nod is all you have time to do . If this kid was "swooping in " , he probably did have his hands busy . At the very least , a nod is better than a snub . Cliff

;LOL A nod is better than a 1 finger wave!

How about a wink-and-a-nod? ;)

I'm not so sure about the wink thing... esp. if the dude's Vette is pink.

I personally dismiss the nod as being arrogant. "Hey, I got a C5 and your 'Vette is old." Young kid probably doesn't even know anything about the wave.

Under those circumstances I agree BUT you can tell the difference between a YO :) & a YEAH :eyerole .

ok, i am a young guy on this forum, and the nod is ok but even i appreciate a hand wave from a fellow driver and they deserve one in return. i always used to cruise with my dad in his 70 chevelle ss and it was fun waving to all the fellow old car drivers. i would hope fellow vett drivers will reciprocate the wave.

Nod

Give the kid a break.
My younger son got a really good bonus in the fall of 1998 and bought his first Corvette, new and off the show-room floor. With so many strangers waving at him, he thought he had a flat or burned out lamp until someone at work told him about the 'Wave'
Really embarrased, he began returning the wave with great enthusiasm.

If at all possible all vette drivers should wave. But if caught in a situation that the hand can't get up a BIG nod with a smile at least lets them know you aren't snubbing them. It is easy to get caught in the middle of a shift.

Weren't you ever too cool, too self concious, or too alianated by adults when you were young to even gather any acknowlegement to others (especially adults) that you didn't know ;LOL Heck I know I was ;)

At any rate, if this kids hat was on backwards, or sideways, and his crotch hanging to his knees, someone needs to "school" the parents, never mind the kid :cool :w

When I was that age cruisin' in the '63 vert I looked down my nose at EVERYBODY, including newer vettes. And I was way too cool in daddy's Olds.

It's just fun to acknowledge the club now. BTW a red '96 coupe tailed me to work. Almost ran off the road watching myself in the mirrors. That's one beautiful car rolling on the asphalt.

Heh , if I see someone inna vette goin' by , I sure gonna smile or throw some gesture , be it rock out sign or just a wave :) Vettes are just so cool . There is a lot of vetters out there who definetely like the shops with tinted glass down to earth . Good to drive by I say :)

I think the nods fine. Besides, like so many said, he's a young kid and may not have any idea what he needs to do.

In my book, a nod counts, just not quite as much as a wave.
