Does a nod count?

In my book, a nod counts, just not quite as much as a wave.

I agree. A nod gets 1/2 a point. For whatever your reasons are, if someone offers you a wave (whether Corvette or otherwise) the considerate response should be a wave in return. Thus, wave for wave, nod for nod, finger for finger. It's a courtesy thing.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I got this guy in my neighborhood that has a C-5 and drives by my house everyday on his way home. He used to look our way when he'd drive by 'cause we have 3 vettes. And I'd throw him a wave...Nothing. Obviousely, he feels too good about himself to offer a return wave. Regardless if it is a Corvette wave or not. If someone waves to you, wave back! I'm not an arrogant ass about my cars, but with this guy it's like, "yeah, I know you have a nice C-5...Too bad you only have one! Someday, I'll have a C-5 too, then I'll have four!"

Now he drives by and doesn't even glance my way. Oh well, not all vette owners can be nice people.

If you lived down the street from me and had 3 'Vette's, I wouldn't wave at you either. I would just stop, get out of the car and talk to you. If you have 3 of 'em, you must like them a little bit so we should have something in common.:D

You know it!:beer

I personally dismiss the nod as being arrogant. "Hey, I got a C5 and your 'Vette is old." Young kid probably doesn't even know anything about the wave.
I have to agree with Edmond here. I understand the fact that if your hands are busy controlling the car, a nod would be acceptable. But by the sounds of this "kid" with the headphones on :nono , I think it was more arrogance than anything. I'll wave at anybody, in any Corvette.

I was on my way to work the other morning on a four lane road (with stop lights, not a freeway type) and there was a girl in a MY vert heading the opposite way. I guess we both saw each other at the same time and she actually slowed down, pulled into her left hand lane just so she could wave at me!!! I was very impressed with that move!!!!! Now there's someone who takes "The Wave" serious!!

Side note: My neighbor was 2 or 3 cars behind her, and when I got home from work he wanted to know who "the knock-out blonde in the yellow vette was??!!"

My reply: ;)

A nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse.

Damn you Ken.........you stole my thunder...;LOL

Len:w <---- see afore mentioned wave.

To me, a nod when someone waves at you is arrogant because it seems like something someone who thinks they're better than you would do. I'm thinking that they think it's not worth the effort or using the energy of lifting their arm up and waving.

On the flip side, maybe they think you're crazy for waving at someone you don't know?:L You know how we sometimes nod our head at something crazy we see on TV?:L

at the same time NOD or WAVE , if you have no smile on your face , looks kinda screwed . I think if you smiling you can just as well nod . Maybe your hands are busy with something .

I grew up and live in farm country. Around here you wave, don't make any diff. if you know them It is the nature of most people around here. Two strangers may be waiting at the same place for something and may end up talking for quite some time. That said, the "wave" comes quite natural for me.

That is part of what I love about Alaska; just a part.

Yeah I try to wave, nod smile or do all three when I see a fellow vette coming, heck I have even waved at vettes while I was in my Escort, boy did I feel kind of dumb then...:L

The big problem with some vette owners is ,,that if they own a newer vette they think they are in a higher class...... I just smile because my 67 BB vette is worth more than a new C6-ZO6..... I guess some new vette owners need to do some homework on the value of the older Corvettes....Then they would admire the old folks like me and thier cars....:D

Mike

I own a bike, I wave at bikers, I have a PT Cruiser, I wave at PT Cruisers, I now have a Vette, I wave at Vettes, Heck I'm one friendly guy. :w

On note about the youngin driving his daddy's vette and his Justin Timberlake like wusie nod, life hasn't bit him in the but yet, when he realize that the world doesn't revolve around him he may take note of others.

When I was a kid, it was called being a cocky smart @ss kid, and so was I. ;)

I have only had my Vette for about 6 weeks, but knew about the wave before I got the car. Sure enough, as soon as I started driving it, other Vette drivers began waving, and it's now a lot like when I had my '68 Chevelle SS 396, got lots of waves with it too. I have noticed a couple of the C5 owners around here will absolutely not wave, even when I always wave at them.......[shrugs] whatever! I'm gonna keep on doing my part anyway!

Side note: Being from south GA, it was very common when I was a kid for people to wave as they passed by, regardless of the vehicle, just a sort of courtesy "I see ya there" thing I suppose.......rarely see it anymore, except in some of the more rural areas.

If you pass me, however, & I don't wave, it's only 'cause I didn't see you!

Not about to start the whole C5 wave thing. Just wanted to tell on this dude.

Pulling away from the local Citgo convenience dump and this child swoops in with headphones on and a ball cap. Convertible Anniv. I wave to the fellow. Conditioned Pavlovian response.

He mustered an almost imperceptable nod, not daring to lift his arm. His father who undoubtedly owns the car should give him a pre-flight briefing and promise a pants down spankin' if he don't act right!

Hey I love to stop and talk cars with people. That 'cool' attitude misses out on all the fun:w However if I get an Anny someday that could change. I then would be Master of the Universe.

Oh, honey! Be glad you weren't me this past week. TWICE I've had two Vette drivers take aim and fire off that cheesy, lounge singer, air-gun fingers thing at me-winks included. (bang-bang) Which left me, both times, with my wave fizzling into a limp, fan for imaginary bugs.....
:w Thar ya go!

Beating a dead horse, but....

Yes, a nod counts....

Same thing with Harleys, except a nod is a perfectly acceptable acknowledgment, especially if you're busy shifting gears, etc, and can't take your hand off the bars (safety issue).

The whole "cool attitude" thing, well...some people feel dorky waving I'm sure. Don't get your knickers in a twist over it. ;)

The guy was 10 feet away... we were stopped...God forbid his hand was busy. He just reminded me of the idiot jocks in high school that wouldn't be caught dead with the nerds. Now they work for them.

WAVE DAMN YOU

Hey, I waved at every vette I saw this past Friday as I crused the Z down to the beach and back. On the way back met a real nice looking vert heading for the beach and the guy was waving so hard I thought his hand was going to come off. Of course I waved back and gave a big :_rock to the vert.

Hey HtteveroC how are things down in Thurmont? Are you getting ready for August? Have you seen Steve running around with Twetty?

H.D.

Knickers? :confused Naw, no need for that. I'ze just calz em like I seez em...An ass is an ass.

Exactly.... ;)

How do you handle "the wave" at cruise-in's and such? By the way, I have about 10 hours in the vette. 0-3. Two C-5's and a C-4. Here's my wave:
