I was wondering how difficult it would be to get rid of chrome bumpers by painting them and what the process would be - Do you have to strip the chrome down to bare metal??

Any special prepping??

Reason I ask, I found a nice truck and it only comes w/ (big) chrome bumpers - I am a fan of painted bumpers :cool

Also, what do you suppose this would be cost wise?? How many hours for the job?? (on a full size pick up)

Thanks - :m

I have seen MANY guys do that to bumpers on Novas and the like. I think if you want to keep this truck for a while, you need to go to bare metal or at least scuff it up good.

Good luck!

Depending on the year of truck, it might be cheaper (if you are not doing teh work yourself) to order new non-chrome bumpers.

I'd second that notion. I'm in the opposite boat, my 84 Chevy pickup has a painted rear that I would prefer chrome. I've been pricing them and the painted ones like I have are dirt cheap ('round 100 or so). And the finish is kinda close to a powder coat feel so painting it to match another color would be a breeze.

The cheapest place you'll ever find for sand-blasting large items is your local monument business.

Yep, the guys who make cemetery monuments. I carried my '67 frame in and had it blasted for approx. $US100
