With the midyears, does color really matter? What are the 3 top color choices
and what would be the 3 least desirable? I'm getting mixed signals from
other midyear owners.

Does it matter? That depends on your goal. Are you interested in impressing judges or yourself? That should answer your question.

:D

Welcome to the Forum.

i think all c2's should wear there original colours since the car is pretty old. now depending what you like is another story. i got lucky and found a tuxedo black one and thats the colour i allways wanted. i think it looks pretty sharp and stealth looking and i get alot of thumbs up...now for the judge of the 3 best or 3 worst i would not comment on that because i think all the colours are nice

i say , "just my opinion" if your having it painted have it done by a pro and choose the color you can live with and love ..me personally like white but what do i know?...red is nice "traffic tickets" yellow=same thing..the darker colors seem to draw less attention but HEY DUDE your in a vette!!! lololol..i sometimes wish mine was "burnt orange" but thats another story LOLOL..i say just get it in as close to an original color as you can without having streaks and stuff..in other words its a vette and going to draw attention no matter what color it is ..dont worry about it just enjoy driving it ...and keep it between the ditches.
welcome to CAC ..:D sherry

Black is beautiful ! But you have to keep it in the ultimate condition.
IMHO, I would,nt buy any other color. !!

Keith, I say stay away from blue or yellow, mosport is nice if you have a '66. :L :D :D:L

It matters to some of us. I bought my rebuilder '65 based on price and a project I wanted to build. The car is Pearl Silver. I still don't care for the color, but after much work and detailing the paint looks very nice. I wanted a yellow one, but couldn't wait.

I like to stay with the origional color on an non modified car.

Your question is rather ambigious. Does color really matter to what or who? If you have a midyear that is otherwise correct, and you paint the car a color other than the color on it's trim tag, you will decrease the value of it. If you are planning on having the car judged, it will affect the judging score substantially.
If however, the car is a non-numbers matching car then a non-original color will probably not affect the value of the car much. If you are just going to drive the wheels off of it and have no intent of selling the car in the future, then I say paint it any color you want and enjoy the car!

IMHO, $.02 , There is no color nicer than BLACK, but it MUST be kept clean. !!!

Well me I'm not the NCRS guy so even if it was numbers matching is the color the one you want? If not are you planning on selling it anytime soon/ever? If it's a NOM paint it the color YOU want. You have to be happy. My car is white/saddle/saddle and it left the factory goldwood yellow/black/black is my best guess. If I painted MY vette again I'd probably go down and find the color swatch that I like best. Now will you hear from the know-it-alls at the cruiz in's SURE. Will you hear from those losers even if you paint it a correct color...YEP. So I like blue, red, yellow, white, green, black.. did I miss one.. Just one word to the wise white looks bland even though I like mine, white just doesn't do justice to the curves.... Dave..

This got me thinking and I don't think there were any bad colors on midyears. I've seen beautiful examples of almost all the colors. Sure, I have my favorites but that would be my choice, not yours.

If your car is pretty much origional and you plan on turning it into cash sometime in the future then the best color is the one on the trim tag. Any other color will cost you $$ at sell time. Any origional Corvette color will look right and be nice on a car that you were not going to have NCRS ect. judged. Also there are lots of non-Corvette colors that would be killer if that is what you really like. I saw a medium grey '65 with the C4 suspension conversion at Vettefest last March that was awesome. Looks like it should have been a Corvette color but never was on a C2.

I have to chuckle :) I LOVE silver. Quick story. A long time friend of mine (25 years) has a NICE 67 roadster. He's had it for 20 years. When he bought it, it was dark blue, not a Corvette color. It has a teal interior. It's an OM 327/300 4 speed car with real factory side pipes, never hit, solid frame. LOW mileage....about 60K.

Car is "coded" silver pearl as the original paint. After MUCH anxiety and coaxing, when he had the car painted over last winter, he had it done in silver pearl. He was still reluctant. Anyhow...car was done...is KILLER gorgeous with the teal interior. Put a new teal Al Knoch soft top on it last winter too. The combo is breathtaking. He's ecstatic about the car, happy with the choice of the original color, AND....if the day comes when he sells it, he won't have to try to explain away a new, expensive non-original paint color. BTW...he's turned down 45K for the car (after it was painted silver pearl) Chuck

Interesting question, and some thoughtful responses. I've been wondering the same thing. Mine right now is a beautiful red, but the original colour is tuxedo blue. My numbers don't match but everything else is pretty well original. My paint is in really good shape, but I am tempted to go back to the original colour. I'll have to see a tuxedo blue one some day to be convinced if that's what I want. For now I am happy with red. Maybe someone with a tuxedo blue will convince me to change. Good luck in your decision.

Ron: Tuxedo blue is not as common a color as some. It's a dark blue.
Red is close to being #1choice in "vettedom". For best price when you
sell a midyear, color originality is important. Note however..... if a paint
job presently runs $5-7k (U.S.) will you realize that add'l expense when
you go to sell?

Thanks
Keith McPherson

An OBTW to Sherry, I got my 96 in Torch Red with Black interior (UGA 'Dawgs!!), but in sunlight at certain angles it is a VERY noticeable burnt orange hue (damn T sips!!).

I am in agreement with most of the posts. If origonal car, matching numbers and such I would keep the origonal color. On non-matching numbers, especially modified cars I would do any color you like. My 65 roadster has the wrong engine, six tail lights, small flares and I believe is Daytona blue, a Corvette color but not offered in 65, with white interior. I like the blue but not crazy about the white interior except it is very summer heat friendly. I can jump right in on hot sunny days in shorts and not burn my butt. I am thinking of changing the interior colors to 79 oyster seats and door panels with 66 dark blue dash and carpet to match the paint, we'll see.

I agree........Black is a sharp color.......but hard to keep clean.......like you, I wouldn't have any other color either......:D

What is really funny, people like as many colors as opinions. I happen to like Silver for many different reasons. First, the color denotes CLASS, and when the light changes so does the color. Second it never looks really dirty. Finally, thats the paint code on my car. 941 Sebring Silver.

Car is about to go to paint, and I have been pondering this same question for several months. I was thinking of going with Electron Blue like my 2002 Vert, and even thought about red. But over and over a little voice tells me to go with the car's paint code 941. So be it, it will be its factory color....

Color is preferance, however, as somebody mentioned on a prior post, if you are bringing car back to factory condition....go with factory color.
