Does anyone out there know how to remove the center door mouldings on a c4. I getting ready paint the car and i want to remove them. I can see two(2) nuts one at the front the other at the back of the door. I removed the door panel but if there are nuts holding on the rest of the moulding it does look like you can get at them. The door crash beam is covering them. Could there be a trick in removing them. Thanks

The rest is double sided tape...rock the molding up and down

Very cool. Thanks for the info. Your car looks great did you paint it your self? Once you remove the moulding who sells the doulbe face tape to reapply the moulding. Thanks again.

I did all the prep work and primed it in my garage...I then drove it down to my friends shop ...no doors, no bumpers, no top, no rear glass....didn't even get caught (was only about a mile on a state road) I let him shoot it in his clean room.

The double sided tape can be bought at any auto body supply store. Let me give you a bit of warning if you intend on taking any of the other moldings off...if you notice, the studs that hold the molding to the body are only pressed into a very thin stainless steel ribbion attached to the molding. More likely then not those studs will spin before you get the nuts off. Then you need to cut the studs and nuts off with a dramil tool. This will ruin the molding and you will need to buy new...if new is still available...some are discontinued.

JonM, That is a beautiful looking car:_rock . I looked, I think at Mid America last night. The cost of the replacement mouldings is UNBELIEVABLE! Is it neccessary to get the GM vs. aftermarket? If not, is there a better place?

Thanks for the compliments. I replaced all my moldings when I did my car. I bought them all at TLD. I was even lucky enough to get the two CrossFire moldings. I don't think their is aftermarket moldings yet.Mine were all GM. I don't think the right rear bumper molding is available. Are you looking to replace yours?

JonM,

I was considerring replacing some of them, until I saw the price. They are really not all that bad. I do have about a 2" chunk missing from the Dr. side hatch rubber right in the lower corner, and a hard spray will let a few drops in at the top of the windows. But in general nothing real serious.

What I really do need to do is replace the weather strips for both windows inside and out. I suppose it's a biotch of a job. I've never messed with one that was easy. Any ideas where a good place to get them is, and how bad a job it is to do?

there is even a better place for W/S it's called corvette rubber i think that's where most vendors get it. Example
door mains for a 87 60.00 a piece door glass i think is like 28.00 check them out.
www.corvette-rubber.com
i think.

The w/s that TLD sells is Corvette Rubber brand but usually cheaper through TLD.
Hey,Moonunit,Im just replaced some of those window seals on an 84 for someone two weeks ago.The cheapest place for those were TLD also but the package said Corvette America. They were $58.? for the pair.they are rivited on so youll have to drill them out and rerivit them.:beer

Thanks alot guys:upthumbs . It all sounds relativley painless. Good news.

The nuts are only at each end of the molding, 2 nuts total. The rest of the molding has spring clips with teeth on them that push into holes on the door and catch very securely. I removed my moldings by first removing the nuts at each end and then pulling out the molding just enough to get a small hemostat in behind it and then pinching the spring clip to release them for the door one at a time. The tape was only stuck to the door in a few places. You can get the exact same tape at any good body shop supply vendor.

greenstingray,,,,

Where did you buy the new ones from.....????
Did you change the rear......behind the rear tire's???
Just would like to know...
