1972 convertible
Hi, I have a 72 corvette convertible, and have rusted area near inside door lock-latch. Is it advisable to try and weld in new piece of metal, or go for new door? I'm finding it pretty hard to locate a very good convertible drivers side door 69-72 (I think these years?) for my 72. I would like to try and stay with a 72 convertible door though. Any help much appreciated, or anyone selling a good convertible door, thanks Bob.

Depending on where the rusted area is located may dictate if you can weld in new metal or not. If you could find a door (coupe or convertible) with a damaged skin but good metal, you could use it to cut out a patch panel. Another alternative would be to use a panel adhesive and glue in the patch panel. 3M's #8515 panel adhesive would work well.

If your good at fabricating metal, i would go ahead and cut a new patch piece out and remove the rusted area. Just take your time and i'm sure it would come out fine. Don't forget to spray some anti-rust paint on the exposed metal inside the door. :beer
