I can move the interior lock knob and get decent travel. I can even hear the unlock sound that the working door makes. When I try the key, I don't get any movement of the mechanisim. I'm looking at going thru the top of the door to unlock.

I've found several old threads, inluding this one: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/c3-technical-performance/46892-help-door-wont-unlock.html

I've found others alike, but the material is dated and pictures are missing. Could anyone give me a better idea of what I need to pull, or pry to get the door open? The vehicle is a 71

Thanks,
Craig

Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? It has diagrams of the lock rods and latch rods.

Based on your post, I'm guessing the door is unlocked (one operation) but not opening (a second operation).

I do not have the manual for this car.

I'm not exactly sure if the door is unlocked. I can move the lock knob and see mechanical pieces move inside the door. I can also pull the handle and see mechanical pieces move inside the door.

This all started when I attempted to replace the rod from the outer door handle to the opening mechanism. I got frustrated and buttoned it all back up, to work on another day. Well know I have the door closed, with door panel on.

This has been covered before so you should find a thread with pictures on how to open the door by using a long screw driver. Once you get it open you'll have to pull the panel and see what happened. The clips on the outer rod will sometimes pop off or the lock rods will bind. Look at the adjustable 90* el's on the rods I've seen them bent and cause a bind. remove the latch and spray it clean with brake cleaner then spray white grease in it and test operation.
