My drivers seat back on my 82 won't go forward. Any ideas on how to fix it. Thanks

Could be something stuck in the rail or dirt/grime buildup in the rail. Mine didn't move prior to my seat recover so when I pulled the rails off they were full of crap that locked up the movement including 20 cents! A good cleaning and regreasing (and repaint in my case) took care of it and now I get full movement very easily.

My drivers seat back on my 82 won't go forward.
Did the 82's have electrics? I don't know if the 82's are any different, but the 80's don't have any latches. Did you remove the covers over the hinges to see what, if anything, is hung up in there?

The seatback is not electric. I removed the latches and can't see anything wrong. No dirt etc. Is there any mechanism that keeps the seatback from going forward if there is an accident. Car had a light frontend accident before i got it years ago. Can't think of anything else.

When I get back from lunch, I'll look in my 1980 Service Manual and see if I can find anything to help you.

Yes, 78pc-82 seats have an anti-forward mechanism built in so when you hit the brakes, the seat doesn't punch you in the back. I've read before about people getting them stuck... sorry, i can't remember a solution, but I bet taking it completely apart might help.

Aaaaand maybe I won't! Seems that stuff isn't noted in the shop manual. ;shrug Likely in my assembly manual which is at home (I'm at work, or something vaguely resembling it! :L)

Ive had the hinges apart. There are small triangle shaped weights in plastic holders to keep the seat from going forward in a accident. The plastic holders are very thin and break with age then get jammed in the hinge. It all does come apart but I dont think GM intended for us to take it apart. I dont think there are replacement parts but you can buy new hinges as a complete unit
