Driver's Side Insulation, Carpet & Seat Are In

scott81,

I have now completed the rear compartment of the 77, I got carried away and reflectix and did the whole cargo area, even the underside of the back deck. The stuff is made for vettes, the 16'' width is just the right height for behind the cargo storage bins to the wall, just the right width for the back wall, and just the right width for under the deck. I even did up in the back humps on the sides if the deck.

EVERYBODY, this was easy, easy, if this keeps out as much heat as it is supposed to, we are in business.

but I will have to buy another roll, I have just enough left to do behind the drivers seat. I have not started the drivers side. you might have enough if you don't do the under side of the back deck, but I thought another $17 with another vette to do wasn't gonna kill me. besides even if I didn't have another vette to do, It would still be worth it keeping all the heat out.

I forgot about the trans tunnel, I need to get that for sure, so the extra will find its places.

Bobchad, What did you finally end up doing under your console? I know you were worried about a electrical fire, what die you end up doing?

Pulled it off and went under. The only area that I did not get complete coverage was by the shifter mechanism. The posters were right. All of the electrical ends are protected.

Now you tell me that. :D No big deal, I went to Lowes today and got a 24"x25' roll of it and a roll of aluminum tape as well. It only took me about 1 1/2 hours to get there, normally it would take 10 minutes...seems there was an airstream trailer that burned up on I-75 and the rubber-necks really made a mess out of the traffic. Tomorrow I'll be tearing out the interior and hopefully Wednesday will be installing the heat barrier, doing the entire inside. WooHoo! :D

Scott81, and others,

Here is a pic of the interior on the passenger side

Did you get the wire (cable?) in yet. I'm running at about the same pace as you on my 1974 Coupe. It was a bi**ch, but i was able to route the HVAC cable to the selector box door with the LS and center dash in.

Whose carpeting are you using?

I had the right side and center console out to get my oil pressure gauge repaired so it was just a couple of screws to get the ductwork out of the way.

I got my carpet at www.tld-corvette.com. I understand that all of the carpet is made by a couple of places and they had good prices at the time.

Post some pics. Let's see what you are doing.

Bob

Thanks for all the good tips everyone! I finally started installing my carpet today, there was a slight problem and someone sent me the wrong color. I got CAMEL instead of BLACK, don't know how you can confuse that one but they were good about it and didn't ask questions, just said new carpet is on the way. I got ACC carpet from Willcox for $198 and I ordered rear storage doors from Dewitts. Good quality on both. The only bad thing I could say, and it's not really bad just something they can improve on would be to make the carpet about 2" longer for the driver and passenger sides where it sits behind the seats. Here's a link to what I have done so far; http://www.c3sharktank.com/tech2/carpet/carpet1.html

I have to finish up tomorrow and still have to figure out the best way to mount the seat backs, kick panels and speaker covers. When GM installed the seat backs they used staples and the glue from hell, the kick panels and speaker covers just had 100 staples in them.

Lookin' good Scott. I just love it when you do things first then you can come over and help me do mine.

Hey, why don't you do the front suspension next :t

That's an interesting observation. Mine had so much extra on all pieces I kept wondering why they couldn't trim it closer.

Sean- that might just be the next project, or maybe I'll get off my butt and make that aluminum console and put in the megashifter.

Bob- it wasn't bad there, just too close for me. The flaps from the back carpet just barely cover the front piece. Nobody will ever see it but I'll know it's that way :D

Took the car out today for about 90 miles. The insulation made a big difference. Before putting it in I bet the tunnel was 120 - 130 degrees. Now you don't feel any heat coming out.
