This is THE BEST Vette website going! I've been in the background for a while and now need some help. My wife's '94 coupe has a droopy headliner on the solid top. Pop-Riveting the thing seems a little extreme, but it did cross my mind. I told my wife that the broom stick from the console to the middle of the top was only temporary, so she's looking for a fix for it, and I'm looking for some peace! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance..Frank

You have a few options...buy a new headliner from one of the parts dealers. (ecklers,mad..ect) You can bring it to an auto top and upholstery shop. Or fix it yourself. I fixed it myself. The material is held affixed to a high-density board. The board on my car was held onto the roof panel with Velcro. Just slip a butter knife under a corner until you can get your hand inside to lift it up and out. Then what you need to do is pull the old material off the backer, just pull it off. You will most likely end up with the sponge type residue on the board, just take a wire brush and scrape it off.

Go to a fabric store (Joann Fabrics is one) and get a new piece of headliner material. You only need about a yard, and it comes with the new sponge attached. Take the fabric and place it on a flay surface. Lay the board on the fabric and cut the pattern out about two inches larger. Remove the board and spray it with 3M adhesive (see photo below) let it dry. Do this a couple or three times because the adhesive will soak into the board.

Get some help with this part....hold the material over the board and roll it onto the board. (be careful of wrinkles) Turn the board over and fold the edges onto the back. You can use hot melt, the 3M adhesive, or staples. That’s it.

I have a scan from corvette fever I can send you relative to your headliner problem. Advise?

Thanks, JonM for the info. It'll make a good winter project, although it shouldn't take too long to do, from your description. I'd appreciate the article in Corvette Fever, Rabbit, just to get as much info as possible before I start. Thanks to all, Regards..Frank: beer

Good track...except, my headliner (67 Coupe) is padded, not on a fiberboard. From the comments, I inferred the contact adhesive worked on fiberboard. Mine has a foam padding 1/4 to 1/2" thick. Since this is an original backing, wondering if the same adhesive works on soft material, not just fiberboard.

Frank, I need to welcome you to the CAC after seeing that you live in Postdam. ;) I grew up in Gouverneur. Don't miss the cold or the town. How's the weather up there? :beer

Hey TNT, Did you replace it or fix it? just wondering mine has started to come loose too.

I just fixed it. I got the headliner from JoAnn fabrics, along with the headliner spray to make it stick.

If you replace yours you proabbly want to leave the windows down for a day or so to let the glue fumes get out of the car. I think the whole thing was about $18
