DSOM eh, just what does DSOM mean?

:confused i have been looking in this forum and a few others, even did a Google search. Just what does DSOM stand for? I can find DSOM, but no explanation.

You couldn't have simply said "DSOM is Desert Sunset Metallic Orange, a color used on 2004 and 2005 C6's? I'll post a pic when I can get one?"

Hey Dwayne, are you having trouble posting pics? I am... sometimes it takes me a half dozen tries of getting little red x's and then when I'm about to give up - Voila! It works. I went back to one of my post a half hour later today and the pix had changed to little red x's.

Anybody know what gives???

Save the Orange

I have a new DSOM Z06 (1 week old) and the color is taking some getting used to. I picked the color without ever seeing it in person. The picture on the Chevy/Corvette website is much brighter than the car generally looks. The pic 6shooter posted is closer but maybe darker than the car usually looks--it varies a lot depending on lighting.
My salesman (Harry at Kerbeck's) said he thinks it may be the least common color for Z06s, because people will be afraid to buy it without ever seeing it.

I will post some pictures as soon as I can figure out how to.

If I could have a c6 Z06, it would be DSOM. I've seen the color in person and on the road and I think it looks great all around.

Indeed, Tammy. One of my local Corvette club folks sent around an email with the color choices for the next model year, and DSOM was conspicuous by it's absence.

The thing I, however, latched upon was that ONCE AGAIN (!) mad ) my color preference is simply called BLACK! There is no "Raven Black." There is no "Sinister Black." There is no "Midnight Black" or "Darth Vader Black" or "Temptation Black" or "Stealth Black" or "Evil Secret Fantasy Black." Just 'black.'

Every other color choice has some amusing adjective to modify the color name. Not black. Once again, the owners of Black Corvettes are second class citizens, bein' kept down by Da Man! I'm thinking we need a Corvette Civil Rights Rally on the lawn outside GM's Detroit Headquarters.

DSOM--Ouch!

Well, it looks like my new Z06 is destined for the crapper, judging by the above comments (excepting MsSchroder--thanks very much, Tammy, for the nice comments).
Here's how it happened: My salesman called and said "How about an early Christmas present? I just got an opening to order a Z06 today, because the guy can't decide about the color and wants to hold off. This order is going in TODAY and are you interested???"

So, in the space of one phone call, I needed to decide color and options...
I LOVE my black 2002 Z06, so black more than crossed my mind. I also like the look of the new Lemans Blue. When Harry called with the opportunity, I was so pumped I was a bit outside my usual conservative mode! Terri came home from getting the cashier's check to buy her new Monterey Red coupe, and I asked her what she thought about Orange--no help there; she just said "You have to decide." I had had the DSOM sitting as desktop background on my computer for several weeks, and just went with it.

Now I find out it is rejected, discontinued, and unappreciated. However... In the 10 days since picking it up, I am liking the body style AND color better and better--it is definitely growing on me. A little bit dusty and it still looks great in sunlight.

One other thing--I am pretty sure that I have the FASTEST orange car (ANY orange) in Western Kentucky--pretty fun! Anybody have suggestions for personalized plates, let me know before next Thursday. Thanks!
