Part three of the Dymag wheel saga took a turn for the better this morning – I woke up on a mission… I had a set of four tires to deliver for fellow Callaway B2K Owner SurfNSun for his Dymags also being refinished up at the wheel shop – I loaded up and headed North towards Baltimore just before lunch time.

Once I arrived, I found out the fella who does the Dymag work was not in however, the lady at the shop excitedly took me over and showed me Josh’s wheels – she had no idea about mine… Josh’s Dymags were ready to be painted and were nice and smooth. Another set of Dymags were beside them also waiting for a refinish – Yes, I asked… NO - they are not for sale… :(

I dropped the tires off that I have had in my garage since Bloomington – tires were courtesy of 90Callaway to Surf – decent!

Now it was off to find my wheels!!!!!!!!!!! Off in one corner of the shop (they have so many wheels – it is amazing!) I found mine – I saw on the one, a very promising note. The note said the leak (CRACK!) had been repaired and the wheel did not leak anymore!!! This is awesome news for ANYONE w/ a slow leak Dymag!!! :upthumbs

I will be checking on the progress of the second one, as it is not yet finished – but this is great news!!!

I hope this helps! :m

Congrats, looking good. Next time you head to the Ye Ole Wheel Shop, give me a shout. If it's a nice day, I might run up and we can meet for lunch.
I might be able make the Skyline Cruise at the end of the month. Are you and your lovely wife heading out to it?

Mark, we are indeed planning on heading to Skyline on the 30th for the huge Corvette Cruise :upthumbs

I will give you a heads-up, next time I head to Elkridge - Lunch :m

Are those my wheels all stripped down? One of those is a challenge wheel :D

Surf - My pleasure to help a fellow Callaway owner out :upthumbs

Yes, that one is a "Challenge wheel" - actually, the whole set on the right is the Challenge style - in ZR1 widths :D (in the top picture)

Yours are on the LEFT and are "double stacked" and stripped down, ready for painting inside and out :cool

The ZR1 Challenge wheels there, had signs of decay on the surface that need to be addressed! The rears were originally white and then just the outsides were coated in silver while the silver fronts were not coated inside much at all :eek

Again, glad to help :m

Done!

The DYMAG Wheel repair project is nearing its completion - I called today to check the status of the other wheel I am having work done and they told me BOTH were DONE :upthumbs

They mounted tires & balanced and they hold fine - These wheels as you may recall, were previously cracked and a repair was attempted on them, One attempt was a rubbery cement inside! :eyerole

I am heading up to pick them up a & will post the pics when I do.

Also, They have the machine to refinish the center caps - and any other metal surface in need of the small "ridges" milled into the face, as the Corvette center caps have.

NOBODY else has this that I have ever heard of - if you previously stripped your clear from a wheel or cap and refinished, you would loose some of the "ridges" or milling marks that make it look original :cool

All this is great news, as I know there have been some owners of cars reluctant to drive them, as their wheels have "leaked a bit".

One other tip - If you do have a wheel that leaks, check the little stuff first - Check your valve stems, they have leaked before on some cars :eek
- the two dollar fix ;)

Done!

Took a trip today, to retrieve my Dymag wheels I dropped off for repair - they look 110% better than I left them!!!!!!!!! :eek

The Center caps were also refinished and the shop now has a machine to "groove" the center caps witht he correct machined surface that vanished when they would have been redone in the past, or at another shop :cool

I am very pleased with the work! :upthumbs
