Does anyone know a source to purchase another abs-5-tcs/ah electronic module for a 2000 vette? Only place I found offered a module for the absurd price of $2500. This is the third one to fail since the car was new. I tried one of the rebuild services years ago & the repaired unit did not work.

First thing I'd do is–if you are going to repair the vehicle–is take Junk's advice on ABS Fixer.

That said, while I agree that 2500 bucks is obscene, GM Parts prices have skyrocketed in recent years and there's not a lot one can do about it. It's a mix of the "Corvette tax" along with the beancounters who run GM post-BK.

I'll add that, generally, EBTCMs are pretty reliable. I own an '04 which has the original module. The chances of getting three (actually four, if uyou count the rebuilt you had) defective EBTCMs in a row is possible but astronomical.

At this point, if you are doing the repairs yourself, I'd get into an "advanced diagnostics" state of mind and start thinking: rather than EBTCMs being failure-prone pieces of junk I need to replace at rediculous cost, maybe there is a problem with either the ABS brakes or the Traction Control system which is causing the modules to fail.

What kinds of things could cause that?

Unusual voltage spikes on power feed lines
Grounding problems.
Bad connections (not only at the controller but at sensors and actuators)
Shorts
Opens
Improper interaction with aftermarket electrical accessories.
RFI from aftermarket accessories or the ignition system
Faulty service procedures

I'll second this line of thinking. I went through a similar experience some years back with a 1990 Grand Am that was eating ECM's. After the original failed, followed shortly by two replacements, I argued with a Pontiac service manager that there was some other root cause of the failed ECM's. He gave me the GM party line that the ECM's were reconditioned, they often had to try two or three to get a replacement that worked -- and pointed out that their diagnostic computer only indicated a failed ECM as evidence to support his position. I politely urged him to use the computer between his ears and explain to me how three separate ECM's (including the original) defied the odds and failed in exactly the same way... Never got an answer; just another replacement ECM...

When the fourth replacement ECM failed -- again, in the same manner and on the way home from the dealership following replacement of the third ECM -- I made a U-turn, limped back to the dealership, angrily handed (actually, threw might be a more apt description) the keys to service manager, told him I didn't want to see the car or hear from him until he found the real cause of the problem, and stomped out. A week or so later, he sheepishly called to inform me they'd found (and now repaired) a short in a wire junction box that was 'frying' the ECM. No problems after that.

So,does anyone have a reliable source to buy another module . I already checked the links from a search of the forum. Seems I am not the only person with this problem. I also used the above mentioned repair service about 3 years ago & got the module back still not working.

I have to agree with Hib on this, even 2 faulty EBCM's in a row would be to kinda extreme,There has to be other problems!
Lets see whats happening with your system,Have you pulled the codes?
If so,post them up!~!!:thumb

If not, pull them and post them up!

Don't clear any yet,Just post them "ALL" History and Current "ALL" Systems!
Check them several times to make sure you don't miss any!~!!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

1. Turn your key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. (This will get you into the "codes" section of the DIC.
4. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. (Have a pen and paper handy to write down the codes)

Note: Any code that ends in an "H" is a history code (something that has occurred in the past, but is not reporting as an error currently.)

5. Once the computer has finished going through all of its codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# Codes."
6. To optionally reset codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until is displays "NO CODES."
7. Press OPTIONS to go into the next module (ie, from PCM, or Powertrain Control Module, to TCS, or Traction Control System.)
8. Repeat Step 6 until you have reset all the codes in all the computer modules.

Note: Only reset the codes if you want to- it is not necessary to reset them every time you pull the codes.

9. When finished, simply take your key out of the ignition.

Its 2 bad ebtcm modules in 13 years. They were not back to back.About 6 yrs. between last one. Already pulled trouble codes. 28-tcs-1255-bad module.

Is that ALL codes for ALL systems in the on board diagnostic center?
:confused

All the other codes are for no communication with rdcm, ldcm. They are all history types. I will have to pull the abs fuse & just drive it as it. Checked with Chev.sales today-got the same answer-part no longer available. Thanks for the help anyway.

So,Other systems and components may share some circuitry and common grounds,That was the reason I wanted "ALL" Codes,"ALL" Systems History and Current.:thumb

Most Good "Technicians" take a look at it from ALL aspects, thats the Difference between "Parts Changers" and "Technicians"!~!!
I repair 100's of electronics problems on GM and a few other brands every year,Most of them (probly 90%)I never have to put a part on!~!!

Now I've got to get back to the "Holiday Inn Express",Lord knows I need my beauty rest!:happyanim:

Good Luck!~!!
