Good morning from the sunny pacific nortwest. I have been getting intermitant code 32 from the ecm. It happens once every couple of weeks. If you turn the car off, it clearsa and wont happen for a week or two. My book say's thios is the EGR system.

Any advice as to what I should look for, also could a plugged cat cause this.

Thanks for all the help THIS SITE IS GREAT!

Ron

I had a 94' Sonoma that had the same code. It got to idling rough and the code became more common. After a lot of work to avoid buying a new $300 AC Delco EGR valve I finally took the old one off a cleaned it - code was gone ran like new. Now this was an electronic EGR valve, I don't know what's on the vettes as I have had no trouble with them yet. If yours is electronic try cleaning it. The dealer told me it was bad and they could not be repaired...of course he was selling the valve for nearly $400 with just less than $100 in labor.

If your EGR is not electronic then it is probably run off the vacuum system. See if other accessories give trouble ex: cruise control. If they are intermittantly non-functioning then you may have a leak somewhere. At least if your EGR is conventional/vacuum they're cheap to replace. You can find methods on the internet that tell you how to check a vacuum actuated EGR vavle

I don't think a clogged cat can trip the EGR, it really isn't in the loop of most EGR systems, but then again this is a vette we're talking about...

Perhaps you should check out the Jan 2003 edition of vette in the '84 & up section' (page 76). A reader with an 86 has the same problem under ' code 32 where are you? '. Essentially the advice given is that the EGR temperature switch suffers from a cracked porcelain surround which causes an intermittent code 32 to be set. The replacement part from chevrolet is PN 14087415.
Good Luck - I think it's warmer down here!

The infamous code 32:( The switch is a common problem and may be the cause. You may want to do a search, there's been plenty of chatter on code 32.

Thanks, Mine is a 92 and I think it is controlled by the ecm. Could excess back pressure from plugged cats cause it also?

I had the same problem my EGR valve and EGR solenoid were bad. Do you get SES light while driving on the highway?

Yep it has only happend on the freeway around 60 miles an hour. After reading other posts it looks like a common problem. In my case it only happens every month or so.
