I've got a 93 Corvette that I just changed the ECM on. And, yes, I did put the PROM in the new ECM. When I put the key in the ignition, the ASR Active light came on. Then I tried starting it and it wouldn't turn over. When I took the key out of the ignition, a fan stayed on and the ASR Active light stayed dimly lit until I disconnected the negative terminal of the battery.

So, I put the PROM back in the old ECM. Hooked the negative battery cable back up and the car alarm came on. Seems I left my keys on the seat inside the car. I had to search for my extra set and by that time, the alarm quit. I went to start the car up and everything just died. Figured this was part of the security system. Disconnected the battery and tried starting it again. The car will not turn over. At least the ASR Active light did not come on like with the new ECM. I don't know if I have damaged the PROM or what. I can't see where I did anything wrong. This whole adventure sucks. I've changed computer memory several times and can't see how I could have screwed this up. I did notice that when I opened up the new ECM to take the PROM out, there was a hint of a burning smell.

Maybe I put the connectors in the wrong order? Each of the 4 are a different color. What order are they suppose to go in?

OK more information:

Could this have something to do with the security system?

I have the new ECM back in the car. The car will not even try to start. Battery is good.

When the car fails to even try and turn over, the security light and SYS flash a couple of times, then quit. The Service ASR and battery light stay on in the information center. The fan does not stay on.

This is crazy!!

Does the car react the same way with both sets of keys? If the CCM doesn't recognize the key resistance, it will disable cranking. You may have to do a relearn. If you need the info, I can get it for you.

I haven't tried that yet. I remember thinking about doing it last night, but I guess I was pretty tired and the thought was fleeting.

I would greatly appreciate you getting me the information on the relearn. Hopefully it is something my feeble brain can handle.

Hello everyone,

My corvette is a 1992 and I’m having a bit of difficult with it; it is doing everything your car did to you.

do you have your prosedures for relearning? if yes would it be posible for you to let me have a copy of them please?

I'm also trying to figure out if I could change the ECM from an early model one (1990-91);
For instance, the 1990.91 model didn’t have ASR and the 1992-93 did, so the 92-93 are a pain when problems arise regarding (ASR, SYS and Security).

So, if I change the ECM to 1990-91 model, would my car work ok?

And would the ASR be disabled?
