I've purchased an Edelbrock 1904 (Q-Jet) for my 80/ZZ3. I've been told by some knowledgeable people that this carb needs different metering rods to work at its best on my car (it's apparently set up for emissions applications, and is fairly lean).

Edelbrock's site shows different metering rods, but they only seem to pertain to the 1901 (Edelbrock's Q-Jet for late 60s early 70s, non-emission GM cars).

Edelbrock seems to have a very limited selection. Will regular GM metering rods work in this thing?

Anything else you'd suggest to make this run well?

Thanks!

In the past, I have had my share of headaches from tuning edelbrock carbs. They have the tech line, but it isn't free. Before you call them, I must warn you they will want to know:

compression at each cylinder
cam profile
displacement
other mods
headers/etc,

Even if you just say it is a ZZ motor, they will still want you to verify it is up to par before going into details on tuning suggestions.

I am assuming when you nail it, it boggs? Typical Edelbrock problem.

You may be dumping that carb and looking for something else soon.

Lars' QJet tuning paper would be useful in your case. Find it at www.corvettefaq.com As far as I know, there is little or no difference between a modern Edelbrock QJet and Rochester QJets of yore...

FYI: A lot of people confuse Edelbrock QJets and Edelbrock Performer (aka Carter AFB) carbs.
