Can anyone tell me how long I can run without the shield on the EGR pipe? Will I have any major problems until the new one arrives? Had to cut it off as it was in such disarray, not to mention in my way.;)

Thanks,

Gordon :w

Forever, as far as I'm concerned. Mine didn't have the cover, and the previous owner said it hadn't been there the whole time he owned the car. I put on a cheap (split, velcro) replacement that broke again in weeks.

If it really bothers you that it isn't there, rap 3 or 4 layers of tinfoil around it till the new one comes. That is also and old feul line trick to help keep heat off .

Thanks for the info, Rich.........I just noticed that there was an abnormal amount of heat and the plug wires were pretty close, so I was a tad concerned.
So, the split, velcro one is no good, huh? Great! That's what I was getting.:eyerole

Thanks scav..........I had thought about something along those lines. The excess heat was and is my main concern. Now it sounds like the cover I have coming is a POS also. Such is life. :eyerole

The velcro melts almost immediately, with predictably smoky results. And the two pieces DON'T melt together, as you might hope...

There's really no more heat around any of the components except the distributor and back of the intake. The plug wires are already near the manifolds and the AIR pipe, which also gets incredibly hot.

Hey...I used that replacement cover on mine and have not had any problems. It's hanging in there. The one thing I need to know is how to take the pipe out so I can remove the valve cover to repaint it. Both my covers are brown. I guess it's from the heat. ......Bob Yates
