OK C-3 fans....I need some help on were to locate the elec, fuel pump for the Pace Car project.

Update...the engine was pulled Friday night. Came out without a hitch and pulling the engine from the side is the ticket. Now the car will be loaded on the trailer and taken to a friend of mine who is going to rebuild the front end while the engine is out. New bushings, ball-joints, shocks, and maybe springs. When the car gets back I'll pressure wash both the engine bay and frame. Then remove as much rust as possible and re-paint the frame and engine bay area. Pics will be coming soon.

Now for my question????

The replacement engine will require an elec. fuel pump. My question is were to mount it?

I would like to stick to an in-line pump. A primary fuel filter will go ahead of the pump followed by a 10 micron filter after the pump up near the carb. The fuel regulator with pressure gauge will be at the carb. Both Todd and I calculated that the engine will need at least a 55 gal/hr flow rate pump at 7 psi. Most likely I'll go to at least a 90 gal/hr to ensure plenty of food is available for the ponies. I have traced the fuel lines all the way back to the tank and they are steel lines with the exception of were they hooked up to the mech. pump on the old engine. My understanding is the you want the pump close to the tank so it doesn't have a long ways to draw fuel from the tank. It looks to me that to place it close to the tank that the supply fuel line would have to be cut and modified to place an in-line pump.

So what did you guys do? Where did you place your elec. fuel pumps? Did you have to drop the tank to get access to the lines?

FWIW, the fuel pump seems to be the only complication so far for the project:confused.

The Pace Car project is on schedule. I hope to have her back up and running by the end of May. Todd will be heading down to the beach the end of April to help me put the new motor and tranny in....and maybe a Chesapeake Bay fishing safari as well:chuckle. My biggest fear about that is that he will like the OBX so much he will end up moving down here, thus becoming a beach bum like me:rotfl.

Thanks guys for the help
