I wired my duel spaul fans into what used to be a allways hot 6g copper wire for my ac works great , heres the question when the fans cycle on for about a 1/2 second my battery/voltage gauge bottoms out past 40 but bounces right back to a little + will this do any harm ?. The directions for the fan said to wire it right to the battery . butt I did not want all that extra wire under the car or in the battery cage ................????

PS don't have ac any more .

The positive battery cable connects to the starter. You can tap the power, there, without running a separate wire to the battery.

What size alternator are you running? The stock alternator probably doesn't have enough power to properly run your fans. A decent alternator shop should have a cross-referrence book, and be able to find a higher-amp alternator that has the same bolt pattern as your original alternator. You'll probably have to swap your V-belt pulley onto the new alternator, as it will probably come with a serpentine-belt pulley, but that's no big deal.

I checked with a local place, and they said that a 100A alternator, and the plug to fit it (it uses a different plug than the original), would come to about $115.

I running a 100amp alternator , I try hooking up to the starter thats a pretty easy run .

the alternator bolted right in even had the correct size pully, its a 100amp alt but at 800 rpm it puts out 85amps and at 2000rpm it puts out 115amps ,was a pollished one from summit for $124
I love the fans they are so efficent frees up a lot of space without the shroud & menechical fan.

Thanks for the input .............75 stringray

I switched the wires over to the battery cable on the starter, then when the fans ran my voltage meter stayed at +40 thats as hi as the guage goes ,so I switched the fans back to the old ac wire I guess the 1/2 second doesen"t bother me both fans are wired to kick on at the same time so thats a lot of amps all at once.
Got out on the freeway today the weather was only 70 degress so at free way speeds the fans never even came on. sitting still in traffic the car was holding a easy 185" very happy with the new cooling system alumium rad. spaul duel fans and a stewart water pump 180" hi flow thermostat.
Well woth the money and time.
