I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight. I have a 79 (i purchased it a few weeks ago) that has a short in the rear tail lamp circuit. Starting from the basics, i changed the rear bulbs and still no lights. I noticed that the fuse marked tail lps was blown. Someone put a 30 amp fuse and that fuse was blown. I noticed in the owners manual that it is supposed to be a 20 amp fuse. As soon as i put the fuse in it popped and burned out.

The manual states the tail lamps (side marker and parking lamps) and the underhood lamps are on that circuit.

I took out each bulb (parking lights, marker, underhood bulb) put it a new fues and it blew out immediately. I should also note that the brake lights and turn signals are working fine.

any help would be appreciated!!

It sounds like a ground somewhere in that circuit. I would start by looking at the underhood light and switch. They get dirty, corroded, etc. and can cause problems.

I would check the wire's going to under Hood light and Dome lamp Switch's the Light Switch it's self!! There's a Dead Short!! Door Sw,s are bad to do that!! and I'v seen the wire to hood lamp get pinched in hood hinge!! And sometimes the Light switch short's inside!! Hope this Help's :upthumbs junk!!

thanks a lot for the help!! I followed the wire from the hood light to the male female connector at the harness. I disconnected the wires, popped in a new fuse and to my amazement...it didn't blow out and the tail lights are working...thanks again
