Hello everyone, I unplugged my rearview mirror, removed it and installed a billet aluminum after market piece from ssinserts.com. I taped the female end of the plugbthat was left hanging to the top of the windshield. Everything was great, the billet mirror looks great. When I turned on my headlights I instantly blew a fuse. I now have no dash lights when I turn on headlights. I do have dash lights(outside temp. etc.) when lights are off. Tommorow I will figure out which fuse I blew, fix it and go back to square one. Does anyone know why I would blow a fuse by simply pulling the plug on the rearview. Maybee I should tape it better? Maybee it needs to be plugged in to complete a circuit? Also, if I find the fuse that is blown should I replace it with a larger # fuse? Maybee C4/C5 can help. Instead of the bat signal we should flash the C4/C5 signal.

I can't help you with your problem but I can say DO NOT put a higher capacity fuse in the fuse box. If you do, you run the chance of overloading wires and potentially causing a fire. Fuses are designed to blow out to protect the wiring and other circuitry.

You may have inadvertently caused a short with the metal piece you added. I would start with checking to see if any bare wires are touching your new part.

HI there,
There may be a short in the wiring going to the mirror. Unplug the mirror, and install a new fuse. Have someone look at the fuse while you plug it in. If it blows, the mirror is the cause.
Check to make sure that there is nothing pinched together for the wiring to the mirror also.

C4C5, not sure if I understand your answer. The new billet mirror does not plug in though. So, I am left with a wire (female end) that hangs freely. That is why I taped it at the top of the windshield. Thank you everyone for helping.

Pac-man, not sure what the plug looks like without going to the car, but this just popped in my mind so I'll share. Did you wrap the plug with tape first before taping it to the windshield? Contacts could be hitting the moulding. Sometimes the obvious will drive you nuts. Just my .02 worth. Good luck with it.

HI there,
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Check to see if that wire is touching anything at the top of the windshield.
The parking lights circuit is wired into the mirror that you removed, so there may be something touching the metal parts of the windshield.
Check it out and keep us posted, c4c5:hb
