About five seconds after I turned my radio on the 15 amp fuse for the radio circuit blew out in my 84 coupe. I took the radio out, but left the speakers in. The fuse blew out but it took several days. I replaced the fuse but did not drive the car for about a week. Interior lights and the security system were working. The fuse blew out after about a week of just having the car parked, didn't even touch it. I have looked at the electrical diagram but I am not that good at tracking down the short. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Could it be the security system? With the radio out of the car and not even opening a door for a week, it seems to me that the security system was the only thing on that circuit that was hot. I have not replaced the fuse at this point.

No, leaving the car parked for a week is not my way of trouble shooting :L. I just didn't need to drive it.

Is it the radio fuse or the CTSY/CLK fuse that is blowing...I am assuming it is the radio fuse...if you look just below the center AC ducts their is a fuse for the Theft Deterent System...pull that fuse and see if you still have the problem. But I just reread your statement and it says its a 15 AMP fuse, so that would make it the CTSY/CLK fuse. Please clear this up.

Thanks for the contact. Sorry about the confusion. Yes it is the CTSY/CLK fuse that is blowing out.

You have your work cut out for you...that fuse also not only controls the clock in the radio but also the Center Info Cluster, Under hood lamps, Horn Relay, Courtesy Lamps, Map Lamps, Power Door Locks, Clock in the radio, Key and Headlight warning, Dome Timer, Spare Tire Light, Antenna relay, Cargo Lamps, Cigar lighter, Console Lamp, and Vanity light. See if you can pinpoint eactly when it blows...lets say when you turn on the cargo lamps, when the antenna is activated, when you turn the headlights on ect...then you can narrow it down.

Mine did the same thing... I finally found the antenna wires were rubbing the muffler and would short and cause the fuse to blow....
