has anyone ever tried to repaint or somehow restore the body
emblems? seems like there is lots of info on removing them but very little on a way to redo them.i realize that the end result may
not be great and that they are not that expensive to purchase new, i am more curious then trying to save a dollar.

I was going to have mine repainted but when I checked on the price of new ones they were only about $15 bucks each and decided to just get new ones.

I did just that, I painted my emblem that mounts onto the valve cover. I could not find a replacement so I painted it with model paint. I found out two things: 1. I better not give up my day job and 2. It can be done with acceptable results if you are patient and are not a perfectionist.

PS I did finally find a new one but it was fun trying to fix the original. Also I don't know how well the model paint would take the heat.

Yes. The front and the rear emblem.
Took them both off. Wet sanded them to get the rest of the paint off. Much was worn off on the top. Then carefully pry off the plastic inserts that cover the cross flags and logo. Then I let my wife take over. She's a very fine detail painter and does lots of awesome ceramic figurines and such. Got some black and red touch up paint. She painted all the little inserts in the cross flags and the red bow tie. I cleaned and polished up the plastic covers then lightly tac glued them back on. On the ring portion she did many coats then did some clear coats on top of that. She even sat on the garage floor and touched up the LT1 logo on the back bumper. Took a few days to do it. From 6in away you can tell it has been done. From a couple of feet away they look very good.

I also pulled the front license plate cover and let her paint gloss black and clearcoat inside the embossed letters. So now the CORVETTE word really stands out on a bright red car. Then I bought the cool letter inserts for the back to put in the embossed area. These are black but turn reflective at night. It gives the car a nice effect and really makes the embossed part stand out.

Cmon ,for the heck of it ,I just checked your bio.Dont tell me an airline pilot cant afford emblems for his corvette! What is it with you pilots ,Im restoring a 68 vert for a pilot right now and hed rather spend $50 in labor than buy a new part for $20:crazy Sorry I had to give you a hard time.
If you really have to repaint your old ones, tape out the cross flags and paint the black with some duplicolor from the parts store. Then untape the crossflags and clear all of it including the crossflags.Make sure you scuff it up before you start.Scuff up the crossflags good too, when you clear it you wont see the sanding scratches.Use a scotchbrite pad or a scouring pad to scuff it up.
May I ask what airline you work for,I promise I wont make any more jokes.:D

cheap pilot

ok fair enough, i was waiting to get nailed from someone.
you do know that copper wire was invented from two pilots fighting over a penny. like i said i am kind of a hands on guy with the smaller stuff, sounds like it might be fun to try and re do them
airline is Westjet airlines in Canada, 737-200s and 700s been around for 7 years, carbon copy of Southwest Airlines.
