Just a bunch of parts....
I am getting ready to bolt together an engine for a project vehicle, and while I've done several engines in the past, this one will be the first where I won't be starting it right after assembly and installation. I've got the rest of the car apart and it won't be ready for the engine for two or three more months, but I want to put the engine together now.

Any tips on what I should do differently? Special assembly lube? Additional steps required when the motor is going to be stored for awhile before installation?

Thanks

Hi Thumper,
On engines that are going to sit for awhile I use a 50/50 mix of stp and 30w. Coat everything during assembly and then fully prime it. Turn the crank slowly while priming the oil pump until the rockers start flowing oil. Then bag it up airtight and reprime it before installing. Many people use lubriplate when assembling but after awhile it turns yellow and hardens.

Storage Lube

Thumper, I build some boat moters that sit all winter long...I use straight Lucas on all the Main ,Crank, and Rod Bearings. Ya might want to install the intake manifold when your getting ready to drop in the motor...and just pour some extra Cam Lube on the lobes before you seal it up with the Intake.
I would'nt use anything heaver than very light oil or even wd-40 on the cylinders...thats all they need before start up. And do a pre lube before start-up as instructed above.

I'm installing a roller cam, and I already have the lifters soaking in 30w. I just bought a new primer that I'm anxious to use. I had an old converted distributor base, but I lent it out and it never made it back, so I decided to buy one of the nice ones.

I never heard of using a 50/50 STP/30w mix. Should work great.
