Have read a few posts about what NOT to do.. like directly spraying the LT1 engine on a C4 vette. Opti Spark and moisture leads to dead vette and $$$$ replaced Optispark....

Looks like the engine on my 96 have never been cleaned and is rather dusty/oily in places.

How should I carefully go about puttin' a nice shine back to her????

Read the post re: plastic bags and rubber bands. Id love to see pics if this really works.

Thanks for any tips :-)

Under the hood

I, like you, am a first time Vette owner. I have a 96 CE LT1 also. The engine compartment was not so bad on mine and yes an air compressor comes in handy when cleaning. I also used 0000 steel wool on all the aluminum tubing to polish and the yellow dobie pad (used for dishes) works well on underside of hood to remove road grit. To really clean up, remove the front wheels to get the down under. The extra cleaning really pays off, after I spent 2 days detailing my CE. I entered it in my first Corvette show ever and placed 2nd in my class of stock/open hood.
It was one of the best moments, Good luck to you.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply

Post some pics when ya get a chance. Id love to see your vette! Congrats on the competition!! :beer

I will try the air and removal of the front tires next week and give her a good safe cleaning.
Just too gun-shy to spray water under the hood.

Thanks
