HELP. My 1975 corvette has the j in the VIN code? It has a turbo 400 transmission. The engine stamp code starts with c and ends with t , The middle letter looks like an H but could be a U. But definitely ends in t. There also is an interlock linkage for neutral safety start 4 manual transmissions on my car. Did my car come with a manual transmission???? And the engines with the last letter t in them we're all so high performance is this a L82? Also this sequence number stamped on the engine Is the same in the vehicle identification code sequence number. Last question did all corvettes come with the transmission neutral safety interlock lever in place???

Captdave....Welcome to CAC. You have tapped into a wealth of Corvette knowledge here. I'm pretty sure someone will be by here pretty soon to help you with your question.

My first answer was going to be 'Can I buy a vowel Pat?' :D

J in the VIN of a '75 means that the car came with the base L48 engine. The VIN does not indicate whether the car came with a manual or automatic transmission. All engine codes in '75 Corvettes started with the letter 'C' but the only Corvette code that ends with 'T' was an L82 w/4 speed, non California. A code for an L48 car with auto trans car, 49 state would be CHB

Automatic transmission cars came with an interlock that prevent the stater from operating unless the transmission was either in the Park or Neutral position. Four speed cars had a safety interlock on the clutch pedal only, meaning that the shift lever did not need to be in neutral but the clutch pedal had to be fully depressed.

It might help if you could post a picture of the engine stamp pad.
