Well I did it. I bought the 65 vette that my friend's dad owned. I was going to sell my 58 vette to get it but the wife wanted me to keep both (must want something).

The 65 is complete except for the front bumpers. It still needs to be restored but the good news is that my friend's dad paints cars and has offered to paint it for free....since he loves the car.

Anyway, I know the engine is not the original (the tranny is) so I'm wondering how to identify what it is and when it was made. Here's the numbers I got off of the block
GM L 3903352 66
352 948 U T G 3

On the heads;
GM 5 T 3890462

As you can tell, I'm new to all of this. How I'm going to be able to afford to rebuild a 58 and 65 is beyond me.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

3903352 is a 327ci engine casting used from 64-67, probably 250hp. The numbers you quote seem out of order, but it might be a December 1966 cast date.

Codes stamped on a ledge directly in front of the passenger side head might help pin it down a bit more.

3890462 is a 66cc head with 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves, only cast for 1967 cars, including all small-block Corvettes that year.

Sounds like your wife is a keeper!
