The number on the pad is F042ID. This look like its for a 327 SHP for a full size chevy. The Block # is 3756519 this looks like a 283 #. Could it have been used for a 327 also? The head # is 3774682 looks like a 283/327 head. There also is a #D141 on the head. This was in a 68 Vette i picked up.

Could that "F042ID" be F0421D? A One rather than an Eye. If so the single D suffix could be a '58 or a '60 283/auto. That would match the block #.

The 519 block was used in millions of '58-'62 283's, in passenger cars, trucks, and Corvettes, and the "D" suffix was a 283/170hp 2-barrel Powerglide used in passenger cars. The April '61-cast head was very common across car lines on cars and trucks on both 283's and 327's.

The engine number is definitely an eye/ ID on the Pad

Eddie,
According to MorTec, the block is a 283 (not 327, different bore) from 58-62. The heads are 60-64 70 cc chamber. These are two barrel heads, they don't match the numbers for the '61 Vette. I can't imagine anyone putting smaller heads on it, they're probably the originals for the engine. Yearone shows 60-62 Impalas with the 'D' designation 170 HP 2 bbl, 8.5:1 compression ratio. Hope this helps.

I was just wondering if that block was ever used for a 327 because nastyz28.com list ID as a 327 SHP engine for a 1966 Chevy

The "1" and "I" characters were used interchangeably to indicate "1", with "I" used more often. The 4-digit "042I" is April 21st, and the suffix is "D"; three-digit date codes ended in 1959 on Flint blocks.

I just find it funny that they would use a 1 and an I in the same # that would be used for the same thing. I went to the library today and found a Cowdin Motor Manual that was printed in 1973 that list # ID as a 67/68 327 Chevy. So i was just curious. Thanks For the help
