Hi all (my first post)

Right be gentle..

Would the Vin number on 66 tell you what engine the car left the factory with?

If not is there any kind of register that would confirm this?

THANKS

Welcome to the forum,

No the vin on a 66 will only tell you if its a coupe or a convertible,

Thanks for the reply.

With Jaguars and Triumph TR's you an request a certificate that given the Chassis/VIN number will give info on your car such as Build date, Selling dealer and date, clolours and complete vehicle specification as left the factory.

Is there no way of finding out how my 427 Conv left the factory. I would like to get it back to the original spec.

Thanks

There was no documentation on the car until the tank sticker showed up starting in 1967, so unless you have the car's original order/sales paperwork, you have to depend on "clues" to determine its original configuration. A good starting point reference is the NCRS 1966 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide, available from the NCRS on-line store at www.ncrs.org; it will explain in gory detail exactly how the car and its options appeared when the car was built.
